Guest guest
I certainly respect your opinion. And you are absolutely correct that the lap surgery is far more complicated than the open procedure. And candidates must be well screened. However, if you find a VERY experienced lap surgeon, who has also had a history of success with the lap DS, then in my opinion, the lap procedure affords a wonderful option. I had my surgery (which included gall bladder removal) done lap by Dr. Gagner, was discharged on the fourth day, had zero complications, returned to work at 4 weeks, have 6 tiny scars and life is grand. And I know people who have had open procedures with many complications and difficult recoveries. And, of course, the opposite is true - lap complications and clear sailing with open procedures. It really is a matter of choice and of appropriate screening by both doctor and patient. ly, I couldn't imagine having this done open - but then, my perspective is influenced by my success and the success of so many of my Mt. Sinai friends. Just another perspective . . . Kathleen B. land Lap DS w/Dr. Gagner on 8/7/00 CareFirst BCBS/PPN Minus 90 lbs kbirrane@...
