Dawn,

I used to take mtx on Fridays and never fail, I would get really sick 3-5 days afterwards. I got mouth sores too but never bothered me a whole lot. The nausea got to me worse. I didn't get as sick from the injections, just the oral pills. Do you take folic acid and a good heartburn pill?

Hi, Lelia. I have mouth sores from Methx. and my Dr. always gives me Nyostatin

rinse. Tastes awful,

but seems to relieve them short-term. I think the Diflucan pill would be best

for recurrent sores and

I'm thinking of trying that.

Maybe someone (Vicki) could answer this question. Sometimes when I take my

Methx. on Thurs. nights, I

don't always take it with a full glass of water as per the directions. Could

this be why I have such

bad side affects? Curious....

Yes, I take Folic Acid but nothing for heartburn. I rarely get

heartburn but when I do, Rolaids takes care of it. Do you take Methx.

injections? Sorry, but I can't remember what you take. I thought it

was Imuran??

Carol,

constantly gets mouth sores. I give her otc tylenol and motrin.

Motrin works best for her. We also have a liqid form of lidocaine that is

prescription. It is used very small amounts and not all docs like it, but it

does numb the site for up to 6 hours at a time. If they dont go away in

reasonable amount of time, sometime an anti-viral can help. But anti-virals

can be harsh on system. Maybe try calling md to see if he can prescribe

something a little stronger than otc canker meds. Just a thought. Hope they

heal over fast.

No I dont believe it does(sting) as my husband(soon to be ex) used once for

his and he said it was almost immediate relief. The only thing that hurt was

actually touching the sore to apply. But that would be with any med. Sams

lido was a 2% viscous solution. Let me know if I can answer anything else.

Carol,

Well do you think these mouth sores are really herpes simplex.. cold

sores?..

thinking that lysine tabs help running the course more tolerable.... or maybe

to prevent them When I get them.. seems like OTC doesn't work either.. son

had some odd mouth sores this summer.. and doc said they were ketosis

sores...sign of nutritional defiency....

so do you think the endoscopy irritated his mouth...??? Call the doc and ask

?'s...

Have lots of fun this Christmas!

Hey guys,

Have not been able to be on much lately but trying to read a few posts while I have a brief minute.

I have found that equal parts of Malox and Benadryl shaken well and swished around in the mouth works great for mouth sores. The longer you keep it in your mouth the nummer it will be and in a day or so the sores are gone.

Our pharmasist shared this with me and if you have smaller kiddos it wont hurt them if they swollow it.

Have a great day!

My kids get nasty cold sores and a few inside the mouth. We had always used

the lysine tabs, and even found an ointment from Puritins Pride. But then my

mom told me to use Vit E tablets. Just to take them orally and open the caps

and spread on the cold sore. That really helped and when the kids took them

every day, got far fewer. The latest thing to help us is the new abreva

which is over the counter. It is a miracle on cold sores. You put it on at

the first feeling of one and it stops it and reverses it and it is gone

within a few days. There is also a prescription one like Decyclovir (?) that

works as well. These are for adults, so do not know how old one needs to be,

but boy have they made our life happier when one pops up.

A lot of people in my family have had problems with sores in our mouths-canker sores and tongue ulcers. I have found B12 shots and green peppers both work to heal them fast.
