Guest guest
Elena, It is not that he doesn't want it he is just to nosey. My Ds still is that way. He is almost 8 months. He nurses fine when I take him to bed even if it isn't nap time. Offer it in a quiet non distracting place. Pull the shades. At 5 months they do not want to wean they are just to busy. Hang in there and offer it frequently. Pump when you can't get him to take it and offer it in a cup when you are out. That is what I have to do because when there is a commotion Ds will not take it. He still is an avid nurser though. Good luck Laurie Re: New member intro Welcome Elena! That is very common at that age! He is distracted by things going on. Guest guest
Elena, Welcome to the list. http://www.lalecheleague.org/Italia.html Here is a link for La Leche League in Italy. I would suggest you call them and talk to someone who speaks your native tongue. I would love to help as well. What is your son doing exactly? Is he screaming at the breast? Is he just too distracted? Does he get bottles and pacifiers? This is a common age to start becoming distracted and more interested in the surroundings. Nursing in a dark quiet room can help. Do not worry at all about your English, it is very good! I wish I could say as much for my Italian, but I know none! Glad to have you here and I sure hope you get the help you need. My website also has a lot of information. http://www.lactivist.com Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding resources and info Re: Welcome to breastfeeding Dear list .....I am Elena, coming from a little town in the north of Italy called BIELLA. 35 years old: 2 sons : Carolina 6 years old and Alberto 5 months and half. Guest guest
Elena, Welcome, I wish I spoke Italian to be able to help, but I do know Spanish. I will write this in both, so that you can go for whatever helps you most. My youngest, daughter, is also 5 and a half months (born 10 February). She is not distracted, but her older brother was at this age. I used to have to walk around while he was nursing. For some reason, walking helped to capture his attention so that he didn't look around so much. Besos, Amy Lynn

Guest guest
Dear Wendi, thank you for your reply....I understand everything in English, so you can write me what ypou think about my problems in english because I understand. Yes, he takes bottles....only one per day, in the morning for breakfast....before I offer him my breast and after I give him the bottle but sometimes he does not want neither me nor the bottle. He absolutely does not take any pacifier or comforter ...he only want his thumb. I always nurse in my bed room that is very quiet.....but one month ago I was at the seaside in France...and I could nurse Him at the seaside with no problems! At the evning I make him sleeping only by offering him my breast. Why now he does not want my breast and it is sufficient for him to feel that I am close to him, leaning his little head on my breast without sucking. The problem is that my milk is going away because Albert suck only once a day, in the morning...LUNCH AND DINNER are with vegetables and meat or cheese....in the middle of the afternoon I would like to give him my milk...but he does not want....he is in love with the spoon, so I have to give him something with spoon....as fruit or other things... What I have to do to avoid that my milk would finish??? Thank you for your help. Elena mother of Carolina 6 years and Albert 5 months and half P.S.: I know very well LLL....I have also their book...but I cannot find any suggestion there. Guest guest
Elena, It sounds like he is filling up too much on other things. I would suggest to stop giving him a bottle in the morning and cut back on some of his food throughout the day. Breastmilk is the most nutritious thing for him. The more he fills up on other things and sucks a bottle or his thumb the less time he will spend at your breast. You might want to consider getting a pump to preserve your supply during this time. I would suggest that you attempt to nurse him many times throughout the day. Always nurse first before offering food. You might even wake him up a few minutes early and try to get a nursing in while he is still sleepy. The more nursings you get in throughout the day the more your supply will pick up. The American recommendation is to not start solid food until the baby is at least 6 months old. The more eating and sucking that he does away from your breast the less supply you will have. Have you attended any LLL meetings, are they near you? Guest guest
Dear Wendi, thak you very much for your reply. Yes, before very meal, I offer my breast to Alberto....but he only accept it in the morning...As for solid foods...also in Italy we think that it is better to give mummy milk, instead of giving other foods...but mummy must have a lot of milk...unfortunately I do not have a lot of milk, because at the beginning I had bad suggestion from people....so o give breast only 5 or 6 times per day.....to control how much milk he took and then giving a bottle for the difference....when Albert was 3 months I met LLL on internet and I saw that all I did was wrong...but It was too late to improve my production of milk. So I was able to maintain it by an electric pump and offering the bottle with my milk..I had to pump 6 time a day to have two bottle of about 170 cc.At the beginning of july I gave up with electric pump because the LLL consultant told me that I could give up and offer Alberto my breast, considering that I geban with solid foods....because I had not too much milk....and then you know the story. By the way even if Alberto does not want my breast much times per day...I hope that when he grows will ask more for my breast this is my really hoping. Sorry for my bad english...have you understood?
