I joined Fly Lady a few days ago, didn't do anything really the first day because I haven't been feeling well but I do a few of the things every day and it really works. My kitchen counters are already decluttered so that jobs done but need to work on the hot spots on my desk and side table here. I enjoy it and it gets done fast her way and your house looks great. I need to go get my shoes on! *LOL* Of course, I always get the one each day that says, "Are you already on the computer??" and, as I say to everyone else, "YES and leave me alone..." since I wake up and have my coffee while I do some email every morning. There are very nice people here I'd like to invite for dinner or a barbeque but I get so over whelmed when I try to start. Plus after working a while my back goes bad and I have to quit. Also, when Kari and tribe was here I lit a fire in the fireplace and the chimney decided to plug up so the house was full of smoke and my wall is smoked up, my air vents in all the rooms and all my spider webs turned black. The best advice from fly lady for me was that we all go at our own pace and since there are lots of limitations here because of both the remodelling and my nemesis the wheelchair, I just do some of the routine but I really feel good when even one chore is done. This makes for surface cleaning and I really need to throw away about half of what I own. I do work outside the home - usually 45hours/ week plus, and when I get home at night I am usually so exhausted I can barely move. But I can see where her good routines could become habit-forming, and I hope things change, however slowly. My house is also a mess - heck, I have three snakes in my living room! Not to mention the cats, dog (enough hair in the bedroom to create a whole new critter!) and dh. I guess I'm just ready to try something new in hopes that it will get more liveable around here. I am drowning here in my 38 yrs worth of goodies, all of Lise's belongings and all of Debbie's that I was not ready to let go of. Three households in one house and space for none of it. Since starting fly lady I am throwing out papers and taking a trash bag to the Goodwill drop off on a regular basis. By tackling just one thing per day I am making progress. I went through a file cabinet last week and shredded tons of stuff I didn't need as well as make 3 piles... one for each adult. We had to decide on the stuff in our pile and find a place for anything kept. Would you ;believe we were able to reduce paper by 3 filing cabinet drawers? I went through my closet and bagged tons of stuff. The Women's Shelter came to pick it up and that too felt good. I still have to organize what's left but that is what her baby steps are about. If we take in the whole " magilla " it IS overwhelming, but if you will just set yourself one task at a time, like one drawer or one closet, and don't even demand that you finish in one day. The next thing you know you are caught up with the game. It's important too, to hit a spot that's starting to stack up again and clear it out before it's back on your project list. They have their own private bathroom in their room. The last time he came to visit he went to use the bathroom in the master bedroom but apparently someone had been in there before him and hadn't sprayed. He came out and said to me " Gramma, you bathroom smells!! " When I apologized to him he hugged me and said " Don't feel bad Gramma, out bathroom REEKS " . kids say the darndest things.
