The ones in oil work best on pizza--they don't lose as much moisture as the water-soaked *really dehydrated ones*. ygg Quote
Guest guest Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 > >> >> >> Surely someone here enjoys some kind of cheese-less pizza? >> ========== I am also allergic to dairy and make a lot of cheeseless pizzas. one of our favorites is to make an eggplant mayo and use that instead of a tomato sauce. then top with grilled veggies and fresh herbs. bake. very delish. another, spread pureed mango over the base, then top with grilled chicken, thinly sliced onions and lots of cilantro. I like to add a bit of chili to the mango for DH and me. might not be everyone's favorite but we like to steam carrots then puree them with the water we used to steam them, add some freshly ground sea salt and pepper plus some pizza herbs. spread that over hte pizza this carrot one is good with spinach and grilled zucchini. avocado and spinach make a good pizza as well. Mango and chicken sounds fabulous. + mango salsa (reduced and pureed, preferably) with well soaked fava beans and chicken and lemon basil + pesto and asparagus (steamed) + roasted garlic, diced broccoli (steamed), and roasted peppers (on pesto or tomato sauce or roasted pepper puree + thai bbq chicken (done locally, I've never had it as I don't eat meat, nor can I eat pizza at that parlor now that I'm GF) + sun dried tomatoes (oil), roasted garlic, red onions, roasted eggplant, and roasted peppers (pesto or tomato sauce) + my favorite from a local pizza place: tomatoes, feta, red onions, garlic or roasted garlic, olives, artichoke hearts (on pesto or tomato sauce) You can make a yummy sauce by pureeing caramelized onions. You can add roasted peppers, roasted beets, any sort of tomato, etc, for a different flavor. Spread very thinly. ygg Quote

Guest guest Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 Hi, Here in N. California I find almond cheese in some gorcery stores. Doesn't melt as nicely, but my daughter seemd to like her GF, dairy free pizzza. Sabreena >> Surely someone here enjoys some kind of cheese-less pizza? > Quote

Guest guest Posted April 4, 2006 Report Posted April 4, 2006 I make mine with Follow Your Heart cheese. It's the best cheese alternative I've found. It tastes great and actually melts. My 5 year old who's not on any kind of restricted diet munches it up while I'm shredding it. I get it at Whole Foods Market and most recently at Wild Oats. It's expensive to order online because the shipping cost is so high. My 8 year old Silly Yak loves it on her special pizzas. She only eats cheese pizza so it's not like there's other stuff hiding the taste. What some people do is just add lots of toppings so that the pizza's covered. I know when my office orders pizza (those days kill me by the way), there's a couple specially ordered without cheese so obviously some people like that. I've also heard of using shredded potatoes mixed in with / scattered over the other toppings to give the look of mozzerella. Trudy in NH Quote
Guest guest Posted April 5, 2006 Report Posted April 5, 2006 Would you mind please giving the brand info on the almond cheese? I have a friend who is GFCF and really misses cheese. Barbara in Missouri Quote
