Guest guest
Alice, DO NOT NOT TAKE THE GLUCOPHAGE!! IT CAN CAUSE LACTICOSIS!! when i first went on diabetic pills back in 1997 i had a booklet with all the different pills available at that time. It actually stated that glucophage can cause lacticacidosis. My doctor was good enough to know this. I was on a product called glucotrol for a while but liked one called prandin best because you take it before every meal rather than just in the morning and can vary the number of tablets you take (up to so many per day) with each meal depending on the size of the meal. Also, they are tiny little tablets so easy to swallow. I went on the insulin because sometimes the prandin worked though and sometimes it did not. With the insulin pen it is prefilled and I can adjust how much to take. The doctor is talking about the insulin pump. I am not sure about that. But, I guess you always get a certain preset amount and then if you are going to eat a large meal you check your blood sugar and then you have a switch where you can pump more in. I guess you can do 1/2 units of insulin and stuff. I know a salesperson for one of the printing companies my old company used got one a couple of years ago. I am going to ask her about it. Anyway, I will have to check out the protein idea--I usually am grabbing a regular soda, the glucose tablets, or a candy bar when I go low. Not sure what type of protein I could carry with me. talk to you later--Janet Re: Blood Sugar Readings > Thank you, Janet.
