First of all thank you to EVERYONE who has posted and suggested things to try. As you know things have been a "tad bit" frustrating for the two of us trying to coordinate prompt care between Fort Riley and the civilian providers. We knew from the beginnig that Fort Riley would not have the capabilities to treat my cancer, so we knew most of the care would be referred out. As of today we have approval for all the specialists needed to established my treatment team in Manhattan, Kansas. YEAH!!!!I was also assigned to an Internist within Fort Riley, who happens to be a civilian and only has a small group of patients. It was done with the intent that she would be accessable to me for coordination of treatment with my team on the outside. Since we are retired military we have to deal with the Army and take whatever care the local military hospital can provide, whatever they can not give is usually referred out for civilian care in the local community. Most of you may remember from my previous posts, that that was never the problem. We are glad and blessed to have healthinsurance that is afforadble, the problem for us was from the beginning in knowing that coordinating between the two entities (Army/Civilian) would be the stumbling block and to have access to appropiate care for my situation in a timely manner would be very hard. And we all know how important TIME is with cancer!!!I do not know what finally happened....Did we ruffle the right feathers, did we speak to the right people, did we ask the right/wrong questions, did someone take pitty on my situation, were our prayers finally heard and answered?....I will never know the answer, but feel a lot better today knowing what i know now....Do I trust that the Army will not mess up again, NO WAY! Let me repeat I have good news and I am cautiously optimistic that maybe from here on out the lines of communiction will stay clear and I can finally focus on me and beating cancer and not waste any more time on bureoucratic bologne....But not for one minute am I letting my guard down that the military may not mess up again...You all read how the communication between Army/Civilian just broke down last week within a matter of three days....We have kept a written report of everything, dates, times, places and individuals involved and plan to keep that going should the need ever arrise for us to send this to a Senator or another public figure to point out the flaws in the system....If for nothing else to assure that no other woman within the military healthcare system has to ever find herself in my shoes!!!!!So thank you for all your suggestions, they have been heard and used. This is one fight I had not planned on, but than again being faced with BC you tend to grow above and beyond yourself and I for one could have done without fighting the Army, but that fight showed me that I have more stamina than I ever thought possible...Keep your fingers crossed that this is it for us for a while, we do not need another glitch in my healthcare right now...My apologies for not responding to each person who had ideas or suggestions, please understand, but all was and is appreciated! Now, I have a date for my surgery: March 14th. I am scared and ask you to please keep me in your prayers. I will write in another post as to what was decided to do, this one is already so long....I am thrilled to have the darn tumor out soon, to me it signals the beginning of the rest of my life. I know the road there can and will be hard, but by golly this is a start....Thank you for being there and hugs to all of you!Caren in KansasIDC (FBCS) Quote
