Wooo, you will have one very envious brother-in-law...!

She also looked quite horrified when I said I was going to give the

>sofas a really good test, and sat down and fed Callum!

I dunno about feeding a baby in a furniture showroom, but yesterday I was

made to feel uncomfortable about feeding Caitlin in my own home by one of my

visitors. I think it was the spreadoutness of this almost 11 month child on

my lap that caused the raised eyebrows.

Which reminds me, Christmas is going to involve three days spent in the

anti-breastfeeding culture of Rob's family...

So do I say stuff em, and brazenly and openly feed my (now rather large and

toddleresque) baby, or do I give her a cup of milk when I'm downstairs with

them, and go and hide upstairs when we want to feed like I have done on

previous occasions?

Congratulations on use of spreadoutness.... :-D

If they're that awful you might like the excuse to hide....

I have used Steffi for this stuff lots of times, starting when she was

under 2wo. 'No I'm sorry I can't come to the (really boring) family

gathering cos you'll all be smoking' to 'Sorry, Steffi's too tired.

I'll just take her upstairs for a bit', etc.

Well no they're not awful... not really, and his mum and step father are

lovely. The family en masse are very tiring though, so...

It's mainly Rob's grandparents who disapprove of the b'feeding thing -

Grandad tends to get up and walk out of the room when I start feeding, and

Gran just makes pointed comments like " tut tut, still feeding? " and " you're

making a rod for your own back " etc etc. The rest of them think it, but

aren't rude/brave enough to say it!

And I have to say, that out of respect for Rob's Grandad, who does find it

offensive when someone b'feeds in " public " , I would tend to leave the room.

On previous occasions my MIL has subtly suggested that I'd be " more

comfortable " feeding in the chair in her bedroom!

Rob's sisters breastfed their babies, but they at least did the decent thing

and stopped feeding before each of their babies reach 3 months (!)
