Guest guest
I've done martial arts since I was a kid, I've gone through all the hard stuff, thai boxing, boxing, kung fu, I now do tai chi and chi kung. It certainly helps with blood presure and calms you down, whether the chi kung exercises I do specifically for kidneys do any good, I've no real idea, but they certainly cannot do any harm. One word of advice though, it's nowhere as easy as it looks, many people turn up thinking they can do it cos they've seen a load of oldies doing it in films of china, but they've been doing it since they were kids...I've seen weightlifters, squash players and others pull out of sessions when they find that standing with slightly bent legs for quite some time isn't that easy after all. I certainly don't recommend thai boxing to anybody in this group though :-) > > My wife is wondering if anyone else has tried tai chi to help with > treating their nephropathy. Guest guest
Hi Sabina, Welcome from the Czech Republic. I think you are our first member from there. I am glad you and your husband found us. By the way, your English is excellent. That is excellent that your husband has stabilized so much that his creatinine has dropped from 11 g/24 hours down to 0.6 g/24 hour. That is just remarkable. His levels must have spiked up because of his illness. I am glad the tai-chi helps him so much. I have heard good things about it, but never tried it myself. Welcome again. Guest guest
Hi I haven't been very active with this group. My son has cancer and my life has been turned upside down the past few months. But I do read most every message that comes through and feel that I can relate to everyone in some kind of way. I wanted to say that I've been doing Tai Chi for about six years and it has changed my life immensely. There isn't a day that I miss doing Tai Chi just because of it's daily benefits for me. My health has improved greatly. I also experience frequent flank pain and joint pain..I experience it greater when my stress levels are high.....the tai chi lessens the pain and makes me more productive each day...it also eases my stress and helps me to be more creative. good luck Mia .. Guest guest
I was very active in Chi Quan (sp?) while I was pregnant. We knew there were big problems with my kidneys, but we were not sure what. I had a VERY experienced instructor, who was very involved with me personally during the sessions. There are a lot of great things that you can get out of such an activity, but I would be very careful if you start having sessions that are focusing powerful chi at your kidneys. If done incorrectly you will end up in more pain not less. (not all instructors do energy focus) My advice is to meet with the instructor first and explain that you have Igan and see what they say. Taoist tai chi My wife is wondering if anyone else has tried tai chi to help with treating their nephropathy. She is an avid tai chier and wants me to join and I'm uncertain about the benefits this will have.
Guest guest
Hello, There's a couple of ways of answering this... Are there any studies that I know of that show tai chi to be of a specific benefit to renal patients? Nope. However, a regular tai chi practice will generally produces all the other benefits - better attitude, concentration, general fitness, muscle control, being in touch with your body (I'm sure you've heard all these from your wife!) that help with any chronic disease. I'm somewhat biased given that my late husband was a long time practicioner of tai chi. His teacher, an elderly Chinese gentleman, took up tai chi in his early 60'. He taught up until his death in his late '80's. What an inspiration he was! However, it was embarassing to be bested by a guy in his 80's when it came to flexibility and stamina... Guest guest
I don't know about actually helping IgAN, but I don't see how it would hurt, no more than Yoga would hurt, or meditation, etc. If it makes you feel good, there's no reason not to do it, as far as I know. But of course, you should ask your doctor. I've never done tai chi myself, only oberved others doing it. It seems like a pretty mild kind of exercise. Nothing wrong with it, but if it was me, I wouldn't do it INSTEAD of other aerobic exercises, but in addition to them. Guest guest
Hello from the Czech Republic, I am writing on behalf of my husband who was diagnosed with IgA at the end of June. He was very ill at the beginning of May and had a microhematuria and after some tests doctors suggested him to have a biopsy. At that time he had creatinin 270, proteinuria 11g/24 h (!!), BP normal 120/80. At the same time we tried a very good doctor practising Chinese medecine. He " prescribed " him besides diet and special tees also tai-chi exercise twice a day. It is more or less kind of behavior and way of thinking but I have to say that it helped and still helps a lot. My husband feels much more energy than some months ago. He is on Prestarium (kind of ACE inhibitor) and his last numbers are: creatinin 130, proteinuria 0,6g / 24h. and BP still 120/80. So I really think it helps, at least in psychological way. Sorry for my English I hope you will understand :-) Sincerely Sabina Re: Taoist tai chi I've done martial arts since I was a kid, I've gone through all the hard stuff, thai boxing, boxing, kung fu, I now do tai chi and chi kung.
