Guest guest
Naurice, I've done both but never together nor alone. I had nausea and other stuff (but not hives) when I did oxaliplatin (including the neuropathy thing) and I had nausea and other stuff (but not hives), not as bad, but mixed with some high blood pressure and hand and foot syndrome when I was on Irinotecan and Avastin. Both times were with 5FU and Leucovorin. I think the 5FU is signficant - in many side effects perhaps the most signficant. When you say " alone " , do you really mean " alone " or was the oxaliplatin with 5FU - if so, there is a really good possibility that those side effects were due either to the 5FU or to the dynamic of mixing them with 5FU. In fact, Avastin has a very slight side effect trail by itself; Oxaliplatin is hard to judge, because studies that I'm familiar with where it was used by itself were terminated early because another arm (namely one where it was mixed with 5FU) were so much more successful that the alone arm was terminated too early to glean much information. Guest guest
Narice, I think you already know my answer to this one but just in case, Bert was on 5fu/leuc/oxal and in all honesty, the only side effects he experienced were very dry skin, watery/tearing eyes, and doable neuropathy for a couple of days following each treatment to hands and feet. He's been off chemo now since July 2003 and so far, so good with everything. Guest guest
Hello Narice, I am on the mix of Oxaliplatin and Xeloda and have neuropathy (sensitivity to cold - even have gloves for the refrig; and bad nausea. I am off it now for six weeks, the ox not the xel, and then back on the ox for tow or three rounds, then I go for reverse surgery. The nausea was bad; my doc came me special meds for it Emend (I am told they are $300 a pill. ) You take three at for one a day at the beginning of the week. It works pretty well. Stay well. " Anonymous Questions- Just Wondering Those of you who have been on both Oxilaplatin and Avastin did you have adverse reactions to the Oxilaplatin? Phil's been off Oxilaplatin for about 4-5 months now but I am wondering if this was just Phil's experience or if Oxilaplatin and Avastin might simply be a bad mix for everyone. Phil didn't have the reactions (severe nausea, pain, hives) when he was on Oxilaplatin alone and doesn't have them now with Avastin alone. Just wondering what your experience has been.
