-No I didn't catch the cod. It was part of one of the reseach

programs that were being carried out on the continent. The cods

grow so large (this one was over 120 lbs) that scientist were trying

to calculate how long it took for them to grow. What they would do

is bait a line with numerous fish hooks and the cod that were caught

would be injected with a dye which would ring their skeleton. The

scientist would then tag the fish and hope to catch it later. If

the same fish was caught the number of rings on their bones would be

counted. same cocept as the aging of a tree.

If the fish were determined to grow fast, it might be a source for

world food supply.

No I did not know Dr. Nielson. I was on the continent during the

late 1970's.

-I was in the Navy. The Naval Support Force Antarctica was my last

tour of duty. I loved it. Would trade that experience for the

world. It teachs you to respect the things that we take for granted

every day. The comarderie is great. The live is such an austere

and hostile environoment everyone has to pull together. Your

survial depends on it. New pictures have been added.
