Guest guest Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 CHRISTOPHER: in several of your posts you have mentioned threatening medical personnel with loss of jobs, reprimands, etc. ifthey don't do as you request. can you give us an idea of how you accomplish this? Quote
Guest guest Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Sorry I have to jump in here and make a comment. Threatening people will get you nothing but more obstinance. DO you actually think that calling their boss everytime accomplishes anything more than them listen to you rant and rave? It doesn't. People in the medical field have enough stress to deal with and certainly don't need folks such as yourself going in there with an attitude. I certainly don't understand why you feel you have to threaten folks if they don't do what you want them to do. Just because you think it needs to be done a certain way is not a concern to the people doing the job. Can you give us an idea of how you accomplish this? While I am surprised to be asked that(no one has ever asked me that before, anywhere), I am happy(elated) that you did ask.Medicine has, for years been done with, not only, the 'quick-fix' approach(as opposed to looking deeper into the medical problem) and, a 'conveyor belt' belt attitude.Because of this approach and, attitude, even before the possibility of BC came onto the horizon, I have had to report medical personnel many times for lackluster care. With the incident in the ER, last Friday, I reported the individuals that did care for my fiance, because of my practically having to drag them back, to check on her, several times. I am glad, I didn't get a 'the Full Moon must have been out' excuse, because that would really make me upset. The ones' that are actually, the 'purveyors' of bad healtcare are, the insurance companies that keep saying what procedures they will and, won't pay for, thereby, endangering the safety of the patient.I have reported EMT's, doctors and, nurses. Usually, I will let the offending individual know, they are being reported to remind them of, what they did. After that, I call their boss to let them know, what the offending individual did, and that, they either need to be fired or, if not that, reprimanded because, for all I know, my fiance might not, be the only one they behave like that to. I am not saying, if they don't have a pleasant personality, they should get axe yet, I am saying, how their attitude can determine how, they approach a person's pain.My parents even had to deal with this attitude in the late 1960's when, I was a baby because, I was born with Hydrocephalus yet, it took the doctors 8mths. to figure it out. While their attitude continues to be 'ignorance is bliss', mine is 'No mistakes'. At first, you are correct, threatening people and, rantin' n' ravin' will get you nothing and, nowhere. Now, In terms of talking to the boss everytime, that it happens(not all emergencies are treated poorly), does accomplish something. Every time that, I do make a report, (which is not as often as you might think), I do remind the boss, that, I know about the stress level in their respective job, but, it is not an excuse for bad medicine n' bad behavior. I also mention the fact that, for 13yrs., she was 'essentially' in prison from the day her mother married my fiance's step-father, to the day she left their HOUSE(it doesn't deserve the respect to be called a HOME). Her step-father, abused her (emotionally, physically, physiologically, psychologically and, sexually) and(her mother still accuses her of lying about the abuse), since I have Hydrocephalus too, I know what can happen, if it is not treated. I also let them know, that, in her case, I know more than Hydrocephalus can cause a headache. In terms of her, her shunt(it was implanted in Feb. '04 and, I have had a shunt for 38yrs. with, five revisions in all those years), menstrual cycle(it started yesterday), stress(she does not deal with stress well, she reacts by, thinking suicide is the only answer), meds(she started Effexor two weeks ago so, I don't think the headache is related to that) and, food(she is addicted to caffeine i.e. Coca-cola, tea) can collectively or, individually, cause a headache. Noting all that, I have to make a judgment call about what the headache might be related to. and, whether it would require going to the ER. Quote
