Guest guest Report post Posted March 30, 2000 Beth maybe he is more exclusively nursing than your others, and thats why your cycle has been delayed.. Not sure but that maybe 1 idea.. the other is, do you have any pregnancy symptoms?.. you can concieve and not have a period.. you would have had one the cycle you got pregnant on.. About the biting.. I did have a few of my children who bit me.. I would lay them on the floor, or away from me.. if they bit, and say firmly " NO BITING " , then they got the idea that they didn't get to nurse if they bit me.. 10 months is not too young to figure this out.. One other point is, it will pass.. Take care Christi

Guest guest Report post Posted March 31, 2000 Beth, Welcome to the list. Some women experience Lactational Ammenorrhea for up to 36 months. It is generally found to last about 12-18 months. However, there are many women who start their cycle right away after birth. Each woman is different, although there are some things you can do to help delay your cycle longer. As for biting 6-10 months is the most common time of biting problem in nursing. There are some key points for biting. You need to discover if there is a pattern to the biting. Does he bite at the beginning, end or random times during nursing? If you can recognize the pattern you can unlatch him before he actually bites you. If it is at random times it can be more difficult. One of the most effective things I have seen is when he bites to pull him into your breast which plugs his nose, to breath he must open his mouth and stop biting. Also having a teething type toy nearby to redirect him onto when he is biting. Make sure you stop nursing when he bites, even if for a few moments. He needs to get that nursing and biting don't go together. If he has any pacifiers or artificial nipples it can make the biting worse as he can bite either of those without reaction. Sometimes you might need to take him off your breast and set him down telling him that he can't nurse if he bites you. Consistency is really the key. If you have any open spots on your nipple you might want to get some Lansinoh to help with healing. Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info & resources Hello Hello, I'm Beth and I am currently nursing my 7 month old son, I also have a 10yod and a 3yod. I'm an artist by trade and am homeschooling so I am quite busy. I'm currently having a few nursing problems and so I found this list. I tried searching the archives for answers but didnt come up with much. First problem is that he is biting, badly biting. In fact just sitting around hurts and nursing is like torture for me. I am hoping that some of you have had this problem and have a solution because I dont particularly want to wean him yet but will have to if this continues much longer. The second isnt really a problem I was just wondering if anyone else has this same thing happening. I have not had a menstral cycle since he was born. I know I have read that this can happen when nursing but it didnt happen with either of my other two. Any advice would be appreciated. Guest guest Report post Posted March 31, 2000 Hi Beth and welcome to the list. I'm Fawn, sahm to 19month old Drake and wife to . When Drake began to want to bite me (probably around 6-7mos) I read to quickly draw him close to you to block his airway so that he'd release and then forcefully without shouting say, " NO, NO BITE " and then to offer the breast back to him. So as not to frighten him or cause a nursing strike I would continue this little process as many times in the nursing session as needed. Only 1 time did we have to go through it many, many, many times and that time I ended up offering him a teething toy telling him he may bite it but not mommy (he did accept it and happily chomped away!) I really don't remember how long or how frequently we had to do this but he really seemed to get the message pretty quickly and we're still happily nursing with no biting. Hope this helps! As for your cycle--I don't know what might be normal for you but I have a best girlfriend who's daughter is the same age as DRake (19mos) and still has not had hers return. They still sleep together and she's nursing frequently through the night so she wonders if this is the reason. As for me, Drake was 9months old when mine unexpectedly returned--ick! Well, take care and best wishes. I hope you find lots of good information and suggestions here. I know I always do! Fawn

Guest guest Report post Posted May 29, 2000 Hillary, Welcome to the list. I am currently nursing my 2 1/2 yo son but have no tandem experience. I don't see weaning anytime in our future though. My dh and I just had a conversation last night about nursing length. He said 5 was the limit and I said well I feel like 7 is about my limit of what I could deal with. I said I didn't see Zaid nursing that long but who knows what will happen and he responded " well of course it's completely your call! " I was so happy. Just the kind of support I need. So glad you found our list. I hope someone here has some insight to offer you. Wendi http://www.lactivist.com breastfeeding info & resources Hello I just joined the group and want to introduce myself and my nurslings. I am mommy to 3-year-old Caitlin and 19-month-old , both still nursing several times a day. Caitlin and I are starting to get the " when are you going to wean? " questions. We both just say " I don't know. " I grew up in a family where children nursed until they were four years old. My husband is starting to get nervous because I have said I don't think I can wean Caitlin without weaning , and Caitlin will start kindergarten before turns four! Guest guest Report post Posted June 10, 2000 Hi Llanda, My son is now 10 months and has 8 teeth. He has only nipped me a couple of times so we have been lucky - actually I have been the lucky one. started teething early on as well, chewing on everything and drooling - but he didn't actually cut his first tooth until around 7 1/2 months and then all of a sudden he cut 5 in about a week. Considering all the teeth popping through he wasn't very crabby. Good luck with the nursing, even with the occasional nip, it's still enjoyable. - SAHM to 7-25-99 Hello > Hi! > My Name is Llanda and I just joined this list, on the > reccomondation of some of your member who are on another list with me. Guest guest Report post Posted June 10, 2000 Llanda, Welcome to the list. Glad to have you! My son has been quite a clamper during nursing. Have you tried a chiropractor? It helped us a lot.
