Guest guest
The standard line is that prolonged use of any painkiller is not a good idea. They can cause interstitial nephritis. I really don't think occasional use of aspirin for a headache is going to hurt the kidneys. But even for occasional use like this, they almost invariably recommend Tylenol as the least offensive to the kidneys. The most nephrotoxic one seems to be ibuprofen, so that one, I probably would not take. Every nephrologist I've ever talked to said to take Tylenol. Aspirin should be Ok in a pinch. People run into problems with painkillers when it's frequent use, like for arthritis and that sort of thing. Make no mistake, there are many people on dialysis today who are there only because of painkiller use, or whose course towards dialysis was hastened by this. Pierre Re: Not feeling well/tylenol for temp O. K. guys, need some help on this one as silly as it sounds. I obviously know about NSAID restriction, but again I was reading in this new neph. book that there is actually a higher risk of Tyenol causing ESRD than NSAIDS, (Tylenol 2.1 - 4.06 versus NSAIDS of 1.0 for ESRD, and Tylenol 3.21 versus NSAIDS 2.1 for chronic renal disease). This is with habitual use which I'm sure you don't do Rita, but just want to make sure from the rest of you " pro's " with Ig A, that Tylenol is O.K. when used sparingly, correct? I've heard other people here mention that they do take Tylenol, sparingly. So you think it's okay if I take one? Rita Bonnie Duran > wrote:Hi Rita, sorry, I'm working my way down the Emails, I didn't know you were feeling bad till I got to this Email. I'm so sorry you're feeling poorly. The temp of 101 is in and of itself enough to make you feel crummy. I know what you mean about seeing the blood. That's only happened to me twice, once last year during bilateral ear infections and strep throat. Looks quite disgusting huh. My urine reminded me of seeing old men in the hospital with Foley catheters with obvious renal failure. I thought, oh my, I'm having trouble now. But after talking to one of my collegues (sp?) he thought it was mostly related to the high temp and being dehydrated due to the temp. I poored in the water, and urine improved in a day or two. I really hope you feel better tomorrow. Do you have any Tylenol at home? Drink bunches!!!!! Please take good care of yourself, Bonnie
Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, I can only share with you that my Nephrologist said under no condition was I ever to take Ibuprofen, and that if I absolutely had to take something, to take Tylenol. I hope you and Rita and Amy are all feeling back to your normal smiling selves very soon. I am praying for all of you!
