Guest guest
what are the renal vitamins? Pete. That's why renal vitamins contain no vitamin A. Just what you get from food is enough. Guest guest
Well, the one they sell here is called Replavite. It's non-prescription, but you have to ask the pharmacist for it. Other brands I've heard of elsewhere are names like Nephro-vites. In a pinch, a vitamin B complex with a little bit of vitamin C will do. Just be sure there's no vitamin A in it. Guest guest
Our dietitian gives out a renal vitamin called Dialyvite. It can be ordered directly from the company and she said it's pretty cheap. I'll see if she has any order forms if you're interested. - Shara > You don't want a multivitamin that contains vitamin A if you have more > advanced renal failure (like about 30% or less), because vitamin A > elimination is impaired, and it can build up to toxic levels in kidney > patients. Guest guest
I just want to add that you should only be taking a renal vitamin if your neph tells you to start on them. In early stage renal disease they are not needed or even recommended. I'm at roughly 45% function and I still take a regular multi vitamin but I take it every other day. Just a reminder to check with your neph before starting anything.
