Guest guest
Hi Tia I also have a high ANA but when they did the renal biopsy, did not show signs of lupus nepritis (at least not yet). The significance of a + ANA is dependent on the actual level and then they usually draw an ANA panel, which is a more precise evaluation, but also at times can be inconslusive. There is a listing of criteria for lupus (see reference Tan E, et al.: Arthritis Rheum 1982:25:13) and physicians/np's will usually refer patients to rheumatologists if 4 out of 11 criteria are met. However False + are commonly found in the normal population, and several drugs can also give you a false positive. Also a + ANA can present in other connective tissue disorders. I am not a physician, but I agree with you regarding your interest in the immunologic side of Ig A. Weird stuff huh? Let me tell you how GLAD I was when I got the biopsy back, and did not show lupus nephritis!!! Do you know your ANA level, and did they do an ANA panel? Did they refer you to a specialist? By the way, I know of no connection between hypothyroidism and Ig A. Guest guest
, My ANA is normal, and my thyroid levels are also normal. IgAN is not considered an autoimmune disease even though IgA is a normal part of the immune system.
