Hello everyone:

I wrote an email to one of the physicians at Bringham Women's

Hospital located in Boston. I was trying to see the status of their

study group for the MRI guided ultrasound treatement of uterine

fibroids. Their last group required hysterectomy after the procedure,

but now they do not!

They are starting a new group in a month or two and are looking for

canditates for the third study group. You can email Louise Greenberg

with your name and phone number if this is something you are

interested in. GREENBERG@... I let her know that I would

be posting this when she graciously responded to me.

To be a candidate, you must meet the following

criteria " Participation in this study requires you to have

symptomatic uterine fibroids, be pre-menopausal and not desire any

more children. "

There are 2 web sites that tell you a bit more at www.insightec.com

and www.fibroids.net.

Insightec, Inc. will be applying to the FDA for approval of this

treatment. Hopefully at the beginning of 2004 they will

have the approval and then this treatment can start becoming

available to women outside of a research protocol.

I hope this helps someone. I have finally committed to the abdominal

myo as the pressure is just a bear and I can't stand any more wait

and see. But, a year ago, I would have jumped on this one.

Best of luck to all of you. If this helps, let us know! I hope the

New Year brings positive change for everyone. I will post my surgery

results.

Cheers,

Serena

Serena,

I spoke with a doctor at the B & W about this very study and she said

that in 3 to 5 years the MRI-guided ultrasound treatment should be

available to women who hope to have children after treatment. I'm

very thankful that our sisters and daughters won't have to have the

big incisions/major surgery to treat fibroids. It's a personal

bummer, because I don't qualify since I hope to have children after

some other treatment for fibroids (most likely a myo). I hope others

in this group meet the criteria and get involved!

Best of luck with your abdominal myo! Will be thinking good thoughts

for you.

Janet
