Hi Judy, I have asked your same question a short time ago without any

replies. I am scheduled for a " Portal Embolization " on next Tuesday. The chemo

embolization is done by inserting a catheter up from the groin area and a heavy

dose

of chemo is injected into I believe the Hepatic Atery. The chemo is then

followed by an agent that temporarily blocks the artery, trapping the chemo in

the

liver. I have been told that I may be a candidate at a later date. I have

also been told that this procedure has limited side affects and only a band-aid

is required after the procedure.

With a " Portal Embolization " stainless steel coils are inserted into the

portal artery to the liver by a catheter. This procedure blocks the blood flow

to

the liver ,killing an area of the liver with the tumor. Also the rest of the

liver is expected to grow, allowing the surgeon to remove a larger section of

liver approxiametly 1 month later.

My procedure wil be done at Memorial in Miami,Fl. Dale M.

Hi Dale,

I just recently discussed this a little bit with Nickie. As far as I can

remember she is the only one posting at the moment who has had any experience

with it (the post of her's I replied to is below) Maybe you can email her? Good

luck next Tuesday!

Kathy

Hi Nickie,

How do they decide if chemoembolization is something they are going to do? It

was never suggested to my Dad.
