Guest guest
Hi, The nurse called back and just said to stop taking the steriods as that could be causing the rash, and just to keep an eye on my throat. The other thing she said was that my RTA Evaluation came back. She said the only thing elevated was creatine in my urine. What does that mean? The results are being sent to Dr. Cohen now. I don't know how long it will be for him to call us and explain the results. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Guest guest
hmm thanks Laurie. Wonder then if this is pointing more towards the RTA, or if more than just the creatine and carnitine would have to be elvevated for that diagnosis. Thanks for your ideas. Guest guest
An elevated creatine can indicate some kidney involvement, but it can become elevated with some meds and with advancing age. Probably other things as well. laurie From: LILQT4U1984@... Reply-To: Date: Thu, 6 Feb 2003 17:38:02 EST To: mito , Subject: Calling on your help again... Guest guest
Hi , Do you know if the nurse said creatine or creatinine? These two often get confused, even in labs. Years ago I was doing a lot of 24 hour urine collections for creatine, and so many times they ended up measuring creatinine instead because it is a much more common test. It got so I had to put a sign on every jug that said, we want creatine measured, not creatinine! Even at the NIH (Bethesda, MD research center) the nurse mixed up these two. Anyway, if creatine is elevated, that would implicate muscle, as muscle leaks creatine when it breaks down. If creatinine is elevated, that would implicate kidneys. Guest guest
oh goodness Barbara! What an excellent question! I was infact wondering that myself. I'm sorta thinking its creatine because it was for a kidney test (RTA Evaluation) but I'm not certain. I guess realistically it could be either one with all the muscle pain I have too. Thanks for telling me this and I will bring it up when we talk to Dr. Cohen. Crossing my fingers they did the right test!
