Guest guest
I hope I don't violate any rules here by posting my scoot for sale. It is a 2001 Silver non ABS Reflex with 1785 miles. It is like new and I installed a tall Givi wind screen Price is $3,800 firm Dave Elliott 831 461-0955 dvelliott@... I will professionally crate it for free and you pay for shipping. I run a packaging company and can get reduced shipping rates for you. I have just had hip replacement surgery and am selling this and my Honda Valkyrie because I want to tourer the southwest with my wife and I need a bike I can handle with this metal hip. (Valk is 1000 lbs loaded) I am looking at a Honda Silver Wing or Suzuki 650 Burgman. Any one out here that can tell me the advantages of each? I was at my local dealer who wanted to sell me the Honda. He sells both and he has never rode them and could not tell me why the Honda was better. (other than he probably makes more money on the sale) I am leaning for the Burgman, I think it has more features for the money!! Anyone know?? Guest guest
Hi Dave: What a coincidence - I am a hip resurfacing candidate who owns a Silver Wing. Of course, that might imply a natural bias, but I will comment on both bikes nonetheless. I have just about 3,000 miles on the Wing and can tell you that as someone who really needs a new hip in the near future, it is a comfortable, easy to handle machine. I would assume that the Burgman is also both. The one concern I might have with the Suzuki is the possibility that the additional goodies might be error prone. The artifical tiptronic shifting with the CVT transmission might be a problem area. In fact, I beleive that transmission problems delayed the Burgman's US introduction. Now to your hip - was it resurfaced, and if so, by whom? Guest guest
Boy did I mess up. I belong to the Reflex Yahoo group and some how posted this add here by mistake!!! Oh, well, I had the surgery done at JRI in LA by Dr. Schmalzied. Still looking at the Silver Wing or a Burgman. I like the ABS on the Silver Wing. I like the pasdsenger floor broads on the Burgman and more stuff on it. I am 5 weeks out, so no test ride for a month or so. Wife's comfort will make my final decision. So will ABS brakes Still confussed on which bike. Guest guest
Dave: This is very encouraging - you feel that you will be able to ride the scoot nine weeks post-op? If so, you have made my day as I had thought it would be longer. Guest guest
Hi, I'm pre-op and I might have some contact with Dr. Schmalzried soon. I'd appreciate any info about your experience I could get. Guest guest
Dr. Schmalzried is a very capable doctor and a good guy. I will not go into what he will tell you in your first visit, as that will be between you and him. The hospital is not in the best part of town, and the lower floors looked a little run down. The operating area and the actual hospital floor is first class however. The nurses and staff are very good. Top knoch! Biggest issue for me was that Blue Cross would not pay for the operation, however, another patient who had Blue Shield had hers paid for? In recourse I cancelled Blue cross coverage for my company, thereby costing them $4,200,000 (4+ million)in premiums over the next ten years (I'm the manager), so they saved $27,100 on me, Yep they did. But enough of that. I had no sickness after the operation. I had an epidural and dreamed about being on a beach in Hawaii the whole time I was under. No real pain, but lots of general discomfort. Biggest problem for me (and most others I read about) is not being able to sleep well for the 1st month. I'm at 5 weeks and sleep is getting better now that I can lie on the non operated side (with pillows between legs). I started to walk the second day, by 3 weeks I was walking a mile a day. I would have ridden the Reflex scooter today, but my wife was having a fit. I went for a 2 mile hike (on crutches) today on a wooded path. I already have less pain than I did 3 years ago when this OA got realmbad. Everyday gets better. > >>> I hope I don't violate any rules here by posting my scoot for > >>> sale. > >>> It is a 2001 Silver non ABS Reflex with 1785 miles. > >>> It is like new and I installed a tall Givi wind screen > >>> Price is $3,800 firm > >>> Dave Elliott 831 461-0955 dvelliott@h... > >>> I will professionally crate it for free and you pay for > > shipping. > >> I > >>> run a packaging company and can get reduced shipping rates for > > you. > >>> > >>> I have just had hip replacement surgery and am selling this and > > my > >>> Honda Valkyrie because I want to tourer the southwest with my > > wife > >>> and I need a bike I can handle with this metal hip. Guest guest
Hi, I've run across a couple of mentions now of epidurals. I realize it probably has some significant advantages over general anesthetic, but it really freaks me out to think that it must be painful to get a needle in the spine. Obviously you don't feel anything once it's taken effect, but hopefully they get you doped up to give you the shot. Please tell me that you hardly feel it, or not at all. Nervous, Glen > > Reply-To: surfacehippy > Date: Mon, 19 May 2003 03:51:07 -0000 > To: surfacehippy > Subject: Re: 2001 Reflex for sale-need Silver Wing or Burgman > > Dr. Schmalzried is a very capable doctor and a good guy. Glen, They give you a few shots of local anesthetic in the skin before they do the actual spinal. They are not as bad as novocaine shots from the dentist--just a few little mosquito bites. And just so you know, I am a needle-phobic. The worst part (!) of the whole surgical experience for me was having my finger poked for the autologous blood donation. Not kidding!!!! A friend drove down with me, as it was suggested I not drive that far home after having donated. She was laughing hysterically as I kept yanking my finger away from the nurse... Guest guest
: Thanks so much for your response. I'm not so needle-phobic as I am mostly concerned that an injection " into " the spine would be more painful than the topical ones. BTW what's an autologous blood donation? Guest guest
Hi Deb, Thanks to the replies on this question, I'm becoming less nervous about the prospect of getting a spinal‹which, just the thought of, major freaked me out.
