Guest guest
Hi Larry - Oxaliplatin was just approved for adjuvant treatment in stage IIIs 3 weeks ago, but has actually been approved in the U.S. for about 2 years for stage IV (and longer in Europe) and many people on this board have had it. I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like what Janet is getting is FOLFOX 4, which requires the 3 day protocol. I started out on this and then switched doctors and asked to be placed on a different protocol of the same meds (FOLFOX 6) which was only 1 day every 2 weeks (with 46 hour infusion that I unhooked myself) and much easier to tolerate, not to mention more convenient. I think it has been proven even to have higher (or equal) efficacy. However, many doctors still use FOLFOX 4 because that's the protocol that the trials were conducted under. You might want to inquire about this. I had a much easier time with the once every 2 weeks plan, for various reasons. Good luck! > > Janet met the oncologist > today, Nov 30th. Guest guest
Larry, I already wrote a very long post to you addressing this issue...this is the treatment Bert was on. Additionally, sarapture's treatment protocol was also the one they put Bert on because of the problems he was having with diarrhea...on this protocol he had no problems whatsoever. Good luck and I'll be thinking of you both. Monika > > Janet met the oncologist > today, Nov 30th. Guest guest
Cook County Hospital and Dr. says they cannot find a porta cath pump for a month. So Monday they will start the Chemo the old fashion way. So Monday is " D " day. I know this is day by day but each day it seems a little more stressful...and is there an end or just a new way of living our lives? I figure there is no end to all of this....something new seems to always pop up. Just got to prepare mentally. I am a interior landscaper...this is the busiest time of year for us with the poinsattias, decorations, etc. Lot's of demanding people demanding a perfect holiday. Kids seem to be taking this okay...son doesn't talk to much.....anyway, WE will make the best of it. Larry > > > > Janet met the oncologist > > today, Nov 30th.
