Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Ive always had a very positive experience at my PF Changs. They always take the extra time to tell (every time) that there is a totally separate kitchen just for GF cooking, and not to worry about anything, etc. My waitstaff has always been extremely knowledgable. I frequent the one in Marlton, NJ - but have also been to the one in Atlantic City. We are having our VDay dinner at Changs too! Quote

Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Hey..We had an early valentines dinner at PF Changs last night..we were in Charlotte because of my checkup with the GI. I was so psyched to think about it...the waitress looked at me like I was crazy!!! They handed me the GF menu..but when she came to take my order..(lettuce wraps, rice noodles with beef and scallions and white rice) she came back 4 times. They even wanted to charge me extra for my substition of the wide rice noodle to the noodle stick..that was there recommendation on the menu! Then they told me they would have to take a few more minutes with mine because I ordered the beef and it's apparently pre marinated in regular sauce and the chef had to cut me some fresh meat and cook it in the GF Sauce! I was exhausted by the time I got my meal and barely touched it. It was ok though. I have had better at Thai restaurants. I hope this was just a local thing. I would hope they would train all of the wait staff in how to deal with us!! Here's what I figured out..there are 1 million people in the charlotte area, 1 in 300 people have celiac disease..out of 30,000 people I'm the first one to go to pf changs!! wow..I should get a prize for that..LOL. Enjoy, really, I would just call ahead to let them know your coming and what you need. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! Kim > > Tomorrow DH and I are going to P.F. Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 I like the Chang's Spicy Chicken, but have been told on numerous occasions that the GF lettuce wraps, which have chicken, cannot be made veggie (although they have veggie ones on the regular menu that contain gluten). Let me know if you have better luck. We have tried to order "GF veggie lettuce wraps" a couple of times and the waiter has always come back and said they can't do them. --E Valentine's at P.F. CHang'sTomorrow DH and I are going to P.F. Chang's for Valentine's day dinner. Any recommendations from the G.F. menu, or for any GF desserts? Usually I order their Spicy Shrimp (not actually on the menu but switching out chicken in favor of shrimp, i think), which I love, and DH orders whatever, but tomorrow we're going all out with appetizers etc. Suggestions? I don't eat beef or chicken... Also I found their singapore noodles and white/clear sauce noodles a little bland. Is the spinach good? Can they make lettuce wraps veggie? Reviews would be great! Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 I’m shocked! We’ve been to three different PF Changs in the Phoenix metro area and never had an experience like yours, though it took a little bit of time to train the entire staff after the GF menu was first implemented a few years ago. If you have time someday, call and speak with the manager to let him/her know what kind of experience you had. If the management staff doesn’t know there’s a problem or lack of training, they can’t fix it. -----Original Message----- Hey..We had an early valentines dinner at PF Changs last night..we were in Charlotte because of my checkup with the GI. Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 I'm surprised as well. I freqent the PF Changs in Columbia, MD and they are always on top of their game. On a side note, I didn't know any of their beef menu items were gluten-free. Next time I go I'm going to see if they can make it for me. I miss the Mongolian Beef. Yum. Guest guest Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Two things: 1. It does take extra time for the beef if you don't order it 24 hours ahead of time - we've learned to plan ahead if we want it. 2. If the waitress doesn't know how to handle your order, ask for the chef in person, and keep asking until you get the chef. Do not settle for an uninformed waiter/waitress - that is the path to getting gluten! Maureen > > > > Tomorrow DH and I are going to P.F. Guest guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 I'm glad you warned me ahead of time, because I had exactly that experience- First the waitress said they could do it, and then came back and said, well, not really... We ordered the chicken lettuce wraps, mostly for DH, and then together we ordered Singapore noodles (with shrimp), Chang's Spicy Shrimp, and garlic spinach. The garlic spinach was a little disappointing, but at least now I know what it tastes like. It was very enjoyable, although P.F. Chang's had lost our reservation... I would have been mad, but they really hurried to get us seated. There were no GF desserts available, so we ended up going to the grocery store and getting ingredients for a GF banana split. > > I like the Chang's Spicy Chicken, but have been told on numerous occasions that the GF lettuce wraps, which have chicken, cannot be made veggie (although they have veggie ones on the regular menu that contain gluten). Guest guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 That confirms it then - they really can't make a GF veggie lettuce wrap.. I wonder if the filling is pre-mixed or something? It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me. Re: Valentine's at P.F. Guest guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Well, the Sunnyvale location will make ones with custom filling for my little boy - it's the only thing he eats there. May depend on the kindness of the chef, or how busy they are. FWIW, when we've dealt directly with the chefs at the Sunnyvale and Sacramento locations, they have gone far beyond the call of duty to make special things for my 6 year soy-free celiac. I commend them both. Guest guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 I will definitely follow up on that the next time I go- they were just SO busy on Valentine's Day I didn't want to make a big issue of it. And we did enjoy our meal very much. Thank you for the tip! > > Well, the Sunnyvale location will make ones with custom filling for my > little boy - it's the only thing he eats there. Guest guest Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 I should probably have mentioned he does eat the chicken, it is the veggies and sauce that are customized, as he can not eat soy protein in any form.
