why is dairy so terrible for our guts? I don't have any problems with dairy,

not that I eat much of it - maybe a cup of cottage cheese now and then. A

GP suggested that I might not be getting enough calcium because of a nerve

twitching problem I was having in my temple area and suggested 3 glasses of

skim milk per day (I just took 1000mg of Calcium instead). We shall see -

I know dairy is often pinpointed as a culprit with RA aches and pains, but I

wonder how many of us here can trace our pain to that?

Curious again,

My understanding is that there is a theory around that humans to varying

degrees become lactose intolerant as they grow older. Lactose is the form

of sugar in dairy products. Although according to Dr.Atkins of the Atkins

Diet Revolution that I personally follow most cheeses have had the lactose

fermented out of them and cream is pedominantly fat so these dairy products

are okay if I understand his book correctly.

I don't have any problem with dairy and even Dr Mercola says raw milk is

fine. I have a diary goat and my only problem is counting the carbs

since I'm on the Protien Power diet.

From Mado:

Sugar cravings are sometime a sign of candida albicans (yeast). Try

eliminating yeast foods and see what happens. Don't forget that most

condiments contain yeast i.e. mustard, mayo., etc.

Hmm...

My Eudora mail program chopped off your reply because of it being a

different font, I guess... Anyway, as for chocolate with sugar substitutes

try out the Atkins Diet Revolution Cookbook. Great recipes for making

truffles, chocolate mint pie with an almond crust, chocolate fudge as well

as chocolate ice cream (using whipping cream BION!). You may remember the

recipe for what I consider to be the world's greatest cup of hot chocolate

(Atkins' Diet Revolution Style) I posted about a week ago in reply to

someone in this thread if my memory serves me right.

Hi, not to be picky, but I think the logic needs to be reversed on this one.

Sugar feeds yeast. Cut out the sugar and the carbs and the yeast problem

will go away, including the craving for sugar. I don't know if yeast feeds

yeast infections, but I guess most yeast we eat is found in bread which is

certainly a carbohydrate.

Try chromium picolinate to assuage the sugar cravings. Take as directed on

labels... if you get a metallic taste in the mouth, reduce dosage or halt.

It's a food supp widely available.

Mark,

I had a friend who had a nutrition practice, and dairy is a no-no. It has to

do with gut and digestibility. I know if you have the runs, dairy will

exacerbate it, so it must be related to the balance of good and bad bacteria.

I should research it more; all I know is that most nutritionists advocate

limiting it.

I DO have a lot of facts, but no theories to back them up! Bad combination :
