I have breast cancer and had a lumpectomy the 26th of July. There were not able to get a clean margin on the lump because it was on a muscle and they didn't cut into the muscle. So, I will start chemo Tuesday (4 treatments)then 6 weeks of radiation. I think my attitude is pretty good, I am getting a short haircut tomorrow and also got some chemo hats from the local Cancer Society. I heard that cocoa butter is good for the radiation burns if you get them and also when your hair grows in to use baby shampoo. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Guest guest
Scithster. The magnesium and iodine should be fine to take. The fact that magnesium helped tells me you are deficient. I would hold off on Armour because your symptoms sound more adrenal related than thyroid. The first thing you need to do is get a SALIVARY adrenal/thyroid/hormone test done (not blood) at a place like canaryclub.org. Blood work tells you what is circulating in the blood, not what is happening on the cellular level. I was literally dying and my blood work came back " fine " . My cells were dying and eventually blood work came back with " cellular degeneration " which you don't normally see from someone in their 30s so I knew I was in a major crisis. Don't start messing with Armour until you know what is really going on in your body because if it is your adrenals, you will make it worse. You can also try adding SEA SALT a few times a day in small doses and see if that helps, since you sound like you are experiencing salt loss. " Electrical " can mean your electrolytes which is the sodium, potassium, magnesium, etc. balance and adrenal fatigue can definitely cause this. I had a lot a of heart problems in 1999-2002 and was sure I had several small heart attacks, like once at the airport when I could not get up and was clutching my chest for a good 30 minutes and was only getting gasping breaths. Felt like someone had a vice around my heart and my fast heart rate was ongoing. When lying down my upper stomach would pound like crazy that if the remote control was there it would move up and down. " I have had things that feel like a stroke, dizziness, lightheadedness " I was familiar with the symptoms of heart disease because my Father had both double bypass and aortic surgeries. He also had 5 heart attacks before his big one so I knew you can have " mini " heart attacks before a major one hits. So, I understand your worry. Your paps are likely you are not balanced in your electrolytes and cortisol and yes, eating something may relieve it if it provides a salt or mineral balance you need. I never did have the battery of tests for my heart (I was working too much and didn't take my health seriously enough back then) but I will say, when I changed my diet and started to support my adrenals, my heart problems went away. I still would get panic attacks but much less and now I know it is related to cortisol and Aldosterone. The breathing issues, vice around the heart, chest pains, super rapid pulse (still too fast but not like it was), dizziness, vomiting, and nausea are all gone. Why be on a beta blocker when the docs themselves say your heart is fine? Everything you describe can be adrenal related, and yes, adrenals affect the heart in a MAJOR way. I would not recommend heavy exercise until you get your adrenals checked and addressed as it too much strain. No more than just some walking and light type of exercises. Cheri My first post I have been having chest pain for quite some time, continually getting worse, docs have done all the tests, blood work, tread mills, echo-cardiograms, they says it's electical, not muscular and that my heart is fine (I don't believe them). I have fatigue, and fibgro/costrocondritus, they say I have pvc as I wore the 24 hour heart monitor, I definitely have palps as I feel them, some faint, some strong. Every day I have them, though some days barely, I could swear it's linked to what I eat? or rather, something I eat sometimes makes it go away, so mineral or something, I can't figure it out. Anyway, the doctor says it's not much to worry about, yet I'm scared and feel like I can't do anything physical anymore. I'm male, not to old either. I have had things that feel like a stroke, dizziness, lightheadedness, I've ran to the ER, nothing, I've got to find another avenue, something or someone to help me. I have children and they need a father. They have me on a low dose 25mg beta blocker, just started 3 days ago, not sure it will help. It's definitely something like costro- condritus as it can happen upon movement, or often when I sleep. I want to get rid of this, not mask it over with a beta-blocker. I truly feel like it's something missing in my body. Once I took magnesium, 750 mg a day, it went away, but has come back, the blood work said everything was fine, magnesium, thyroid, whatever, but it was all just the standard run of the mill blood test. Someone recommended this board, and has mentioned the " Armour " tables, I'm thinking of taking the " Thyroid Armour 100 x 15mg tablets " to see if that helps, are they safe? Also, Iodine, I have these Kelp + Iodine tables, I think they have 125 mcg of Iodine, can that help? I do find that my muscles are tense a lot, I have to relax as I'm all tense, but that I do not think is the cause, rather the stress from worrying about this crap. Please help me if you can. - Scithster
Guest guest
Okay, I have Celtic Sea Salt, perhaps I'll start adding that to my diet. So get the SALIVARY adrenal/thyroid/hormone test done then what? It's funny you mention potassium, we had potatoes the other night, for at least 24 hours I felt fine. I feel like I need to see a different kind of doctor as I'm going to drop dead, constant chest pain. You said " when I changed my diet and started to support my adrenals, my heart problems went away " Okay, now that's what I'm talking about, I'll start with a little Sea Salt tonight, but what other diet changes can help me? I'm so thankful for your time, thank you.
Guest guest
I would strongly recommend getting cortisl testing FIRST before starting ANY thyrid treatment. You can order it yourself and we can help you interpret it. As adrenal control the sodium balance in your body and thus the electrical system as well, you would very likely have adrenal problems to cause this as well as possible thyroid troubles. You do nto want to treat either wihtotu knowing you ned it and this saliva test tests bpth ad DHEA and sex hormones at th etissue levels for $141.00 Go to www.canaryclub.org and order a test kit form Diagnos Techs. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
When you get your test results back, post them on this yahoo group list and we can help you interpret them. I use the Diagnos-Techs Lab http://www.canaryclub.org/content/view/196/52/ versus the ZRT (it is cheaper too). You can ask your doctor about adrenal since you have the symptoms but very likely your doc will not know about that connection. I suspect you might have potassium, salt and magnesium imbalances all the time. This is common with adrenal fatigue especially if your aldosterone levels are impacted since that is what regulates them. If you get too much potassium it throws off your salt but if you get too little, you can have the same problems. I recommend buying the book Adrenal Fatigue: The 21st Century Stress Syndrome. It will help you on the diet issues and to understand what your body needs. I started on his protocol both with my diet and supplements. You can find out more here: www.adrenalfatigue.org, take the test, etc. I still use his Adrenal Rebuilder formula. http://adrenalfatigue.org/adrenal_recovery.php http://www.naturallyherbs.com/articles/adrenalburnout.shtml Also, take a look at this: http://drrind.com/metabolic.asp. He has great info on adrenal and thyroid symptoms and it well help you figure out where you fit in while waiting for the testing. Guest guest
Okay, I'm going to get the test, but honestly, my heart is on the edge, I don't know what to do, can't I do a little sea salt and see if that helps, some potassium and mag and iodine to see if that helps while I wait, I'm only going to do the recommended doses on the bottles? What type of stuff should I be eating? I'm sorry, will order the test tomorrow from work and post results here when I get them. - Scithster
Guest guest
Sea salt in 1/4 to 1/2 tsp twice daily wil not hurt a thing, as will vtamin C and B vtamins especially B12. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
I think the magnesium will help calm you and sea salt will help balance you. Potassium I would hold off on since you probably get enough in your diet and you could have salt loss which potassium will make worse. So, I say stick with the magnesium and sea salt until you can get your tests. This link has good info on that as well as diet and other things to do with adrenals: http://www.drlam.com/A3R_brief_in_doc_format/adrenal_fatigue.cfm The food issue is too much to list, you really need to get the book which goes into more detail. You can also Google info.. Basically, protein and good fats are good, avoid high carbs, caffeine, any " stimulant " foods like chocolate, white foods (sugar, flour, pastries, etc.) and processed foods. Go for low glycemic foods over ones that cause insulin rushes: http://www.glycemicindex.com/ Cheri Re: My first post Okay, I'm going to get the test, but honestly, my heart is on the edge, I don't know what to do, can't I do a little sea salt and see if that helps, some potassium and mag and iodine to see if that helps while I wait, I'm only going to do the recommended doses on the bottles? Guest guest
In that Dr. Lam link I sent you, it says this: " When the body lacks magnesium, it will suffer from a variety of pathological conditions such as cardiac arrhythmias " Since magnesium helped you in the past, I think you should add it starting tonight. Guest guest
One thing also that is weird is that if I hold my arms over my head they literally go numb in 15 seconds, yet I can feel my pulse in my wrist, so blood is pumping there, they just go numb, almost cold feeling .... ever heard of that ?
