Guest guest
Hi all, I'll try again, but seems these posts aren't showing up. I see other commentary to this effect. I'm new to this group, although had a nice amount of success with Atkins a few years ago. Slipped off, and I think in large part because I needed this group! I was " alone " out there for a year and a half of staying with it, and then have gained to the point of being 70 lbs. overweight. My goal is 138. Much of what I've read so far has helped me to get enthused again! I have been sticking with it for 2 days. I think we all have our version of what " it " is. I'm interested in the recipes and how it all tastes and works out. Some of Atkins candy bars I'm not too crazy about and they're rather expensive, so it's nice to know there are some alternatives. This is really a much more satisfying way to eat, and I was tired of being " lost at sea " with the random eating I've been doing. Also, I'm at my limit of tolerance for clothing and bra size. I just can NOT go to a 3x. I hope I can add something positive to the group and together we can all keep each other encouraged. I actually looked into the bypass surgery as the final solution to having a normal weight, but at least with Atkins we get to eat and really enjoy our food. From what I've gathered from having been in a group of weight loss surgery people, your eating is pretty limited portion wise and you sort of miss that old full feeling. With Atkins it's possible to be full, yet not gaining. We can still eat with gusto! Hope to make some nice friends here and to offer any support I can. Olson 210 today, going for 138 eventually, but 190 looks good for the short term. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome ! Atkins eating is SOOOO good. I stuck with it a few years ago, but slid off after 18 months because I was too " lonely " out there You have SUCH an advantage with this group. There IS no other way to eat that will keep you this satisifed. Playing those other diet games is like trying to fool mother nature. Mother nature wants our bellies to feel full and our bloodstreams to be satisfied with nutrients. Everything else is fake and can never work. Good luck! You WILL make it because of this group! _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Guest guest
, that hamburger combo sounds good. There is no reason to get bored on this diet as long as we keep trying new things and sharing. The thing that can happen to people is that they give in to " convenience " of grabbing fast food or whatever. I love your enthusiasm, and will look for your posts with new food ideas! _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Guest guest
For someone just starting, calories are not the biggest issue...it's carbs. Calories come into play more later. I wouldn't worry too much about calories in the beginning. If/when you stall out, it is definitely a consideration, and for all you newbies: you will not lose every day, or even every week, but you will lose if you keep carbs low and stick to plan. You are not stalled unless you go 4+ weeks without losing lbs or inches, with NO cheats. HJ ----- Original Message ----- Yep! Guest guest
, my insurance did not cover southcrest either. I didn't know that until the week before surgery. I had to pre-pay. No, my sister didn't get to go to the Carnie thing. I knew it was going to be so late for her as she gets up early for work. Guest guest
> My doctor says he is unsure how intensive my surgery will be - Better make sure that the doctor knows exactly what you would consent to and what not, before you give him / her complete freedom. Did he discuss treatment options with you? Effie.
Guest guest
Effie, He said he may be able to scope through my navel and perform laparoscopy or he may have to make a " bikini cut " to remove the orange-sized tumors. He says that the ultrasound and MRI only tell him so much - he will know much more as he scopes through my navel. He is confident that my fertility will be preserved but I can't help but worry. I have been sleepless since my diagnosis last Monday. I just want it to be over. I have never been so scared or worried in my life. Thanks for listening,

I have been > sleepless since my diagnosis last Monday. I just want it to be over. I > have never been so scared or worried in my life. I don't know what your symptoms are (you don't mention them) that give you such a tremendous sense of urgency and worry... you say that you've been diagnosed only a short time ago... the chance of fibroids being malignant tumours is smaller than the risk of surgery causing death... so it's not necessary to rush to the operating table... certainly not before you have investigated your treatment options. Why the rush? Read the books. Read the archives of this forum. Gather as much information as you can. The medical profession does not set as much value on your uterus as you yourself can do, and the best person to protect it is you -- by knowing everything that there is to know about your own fibroids and treatment options (every treatment option, not jut those offered by your doctor). If need be get a second opinion. Or a third. Some doctors scare their patients into premature or unnecessary surgery... my doctor did everything to make the existence of these growths apprear very menacing to my life and wellbeing and ahe made hysterectomy sound benign. The really scary thing is that I would have believed her if my flight medical examiner (who happened to have been a gyn in Africa) had not told me a completely different story about fibroids. The difference between " you need an immediate hysterectomy to get rid of these tumours and save your life " and " you should see a gyn but please don't worry, I'll pass your medical, there's no need to ground you from flying " made me suspicious and it made me do reasearch and get another opinion and then a third opinion with Dr. West in NY. I'm sure that each of the doctors recommending hysterectomy believed that this was the best way to deal with my fibroids from their point of view... there is still very little experience with muomectomy or UAE in my country (The Netherelands), and patients here have less power to pressure doctors to give information and options. Maybe lack of skill is the primary reason for doctors not offering myomectomy instead of hysterectomy. It's difficult for a patent to know whether the doctor is skilled or not! It's pretty scary when they don't tell you everything. I'm very glad that I found this group and that I found a doctor that I feel I can trust, even if he is 3700 miles away! You are not alone... Effie.
