We feel we want her to enjoy the magic of playing with all the gifts and physio seems not that important on those mornings. She has her afternoon physio just before we leave to go to inlaws and night time one when everything else is done. And of course the enzymes and apple puree come with us. She doesnt have nebs so thats not a problem. Guest guest Posted December 15, 2000 Report Share Posted December 15, 2000 Hi , The tradition for those of us living in East London, England is that on Christmas eve we generally either spend it at home with the family (unless you have no kids in which case it's spent in the local rapidly drinking yourself into a stupor!!). Christmas day is similarly spent at home with an early morning start as the kids wake up and want to open their presents. Boxing day is usually spent either at my parents or in-laws eating too much, drinking too much and watching repeats on the television. Is that an exciting time or what!!?? It is something I think most mothers believe, but every Dr. I have ever said it too always gave me that look. I still believe teething often gave Scout a runny nose and a cough (from the saliva). My Dr said that this is quite common and to ignore it unless the nappies occurred too often and caused problems. And not Santa but the " Holy Child " brings the parcels. All kids have to leave the living room, only mom or dad are in there and often you can hear a tiny bell ring as a signal, that the Holy Child has flown through the house. Then the kids are allowed to enter the living room and they will find the decorated tree and the presents. Fiona has written her wish list today and tomorrow morning the letter will be gone as a sign, that the wishs are accepted. Do they not have Santa in stores? We put our tree up on the 3rd Sunday in November as thats when we have our state pageant in the city. Plus it takes me 2 hours to do so I get the most of it. Plus I love decorations, they are so pretty. The only thing is when you take them down then the house looks empty. I remember hearing a tiny bell when I was a kid. It was christams eve and I heard a bell ringing outside and I peeked out the window and saw a flashing light going across the sky. Of course it was Santa (not an aeroplane) and I tried to smother myself with a pillow because I knew if I wasnt asleep he would bypass my place. Usually we do have it at home, but usually with 30 odd people having lunch there also. Its the driving from one place to another I hate. We call boxing day proclomation day in our state and have everyone back again. So this year well still have proclomation day here. Everyone brings leftovers and we put on a bbq and everyone stuffs themselves silly. My brother-in-law is from Scotland and they live here (only till 24th Jan 2001) and they dont visit anyone until christmas night, so they usually visit us and stay over. I do like having a house full and I dont mind if they sleep, as we've 5 spare beds and a couch , so long as everyone pitches in. Sounds like you'll have a lovely day. I think the best bit is watching the kids faces. Ive just picked up a guitar for my son as he starts his lessons next school year, which Starts 29th Jan. here. Eilish (wcf) is asking Santa for a trampoline and a bike with training wheels, so she'll be pleased Santa has made them already. Or better we will have, since I am famous for buying one at the morning of Christmas Eve, LOL. But this year I have to be a little more early. We have thought about an artificial one, but that would mean that CF takes another part of our life and we aren't ready for that. Of course we have Santa in the stores here and the americanism of the german culture goes on (not that I am sad about this) and it won't take long until we will have the same customs like in the US here. Our neighbors have their tree decorated already. We are still hoping for a white Christmas, but until yesterday we had temperatures above 10C (70F). Today we saw the first snow flakes of the year, but they melted immediately. So all the people from the Midwest, why not share with us? This time of year it rains constantly, especially this year as we have had the wettest couple of months for about a 10 years with floods, high winds and other such lovely weather. In our clinic, they said that in the UK you also only give Ciproxin for a first Pseudomonas isolation and no Colistin or Colymicine. It doesn't seem to be the case, as your son got the inhaled Colistin for three weeks. Do you know why not for three months as in the Danish protocol ? As I only have a few weeks experience of cf I can only assume that this is normal procedure. They haven't ruled out having further treatment they are going to re-assess after treatment by taking another swab and testing it. I would suppose that if it comes back positive that they either give a further course of the both drugs or try a different antibiotic. I will know more after the next swab results. One thing I have found out though is that treatment varies from clinic to clinic and even between different doctors in the same hospital so what you were told may be true dependant on where you are and who you see! My brother-in-law has been here for 2 years and hates the christmases. He comes from Scotland. He says it doesnt feel like christmas. I suppose its what you used to. Its far to hot inside for the full on traditional food, so we usually still have turkey etc. but usually either cooked on the webber or cold with salads and seafood (yuck!) I suppose at least were guaranted that the kids can go outside and play with their stuff. Eilish had her checkup today and was telling anyone who would listen that its only7 sleeps till santa brings her a trampoline and a pink bike with training wheels. Luckily 'santa' has them already. I laughed because my daughters favourite video at the moment IS the Wizard of Oz and you know how kids watch the same thing over and over well thats happening now. Yesterday when we went for her clinic appt. I had to tell her dr. not to call her Eilish as today she's Dorothy and she had to have her hair in plaits and take a basket with a stuffed Toto. She has a great imagination. Liam on the other hand has loved Dinosaurs since he was two. His bedroom is full of them and there skeletons haning from the ceiling. With him its been Jurassic Park every day. We even have to act it out and I get to be Dennis Nedry (guy from Seinfeld). Liam has the screams and pitches of the dino's. down to a tee. He does a great raptor with a stick on arched nail. What a pair. The neighbours must wonder what on earth goes on it here with all the scretching. At least they give me a laugh. I remember when you first came on this list, I asked you where abouts in East London you were from, I guess at that time you were so busy with your son just being diagnosed you didn't get a chance to reply. I am also from East London but have been in Canada for 25 years now, but my family lives in Dagenham also. I was back there last year for a visit. Hope things are going well for your son, I have a son who will be 23 in January and has done very well over the years, not to many hospitizations, last one was about a year ago. Have a great Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year.
