Guest guest
, I use a vaporizer only when it's very dry, like 30 % of humidity. As for the Pseudomonas, you need to empty the water of the machine every day and clean it thoroughly with clorox, before refilling with water. But I think that the most important is that you give lots of fluids to your daughter. As for the runny nose, try to rinse the nose with saline solution. Kids hate that, but I sprinkle Leo's nose very vigorously with the solution, lying him on both sides. the liquid goes from one side of the nose to the other and gets rid of all the deep unreachable mucus in the nose. My son battles hard and cries when I do it, so sometimes it's very difficult to do alone ! But then the nose is really clear... I know that almost everybody knows it.. but just in case.. especially with the sunshine you must have there... DON'T EXPOSE your child by the sun while he has a cold, it only worsens the symptoms !! , Mom to leo, 2 wcf -----Message d'origine----- De : Baxter Envoyé : jeudi, 14. décembre 2000 02:38 À : cfparentsegroups Objet : stuffy nose Eilish has had a runny clear nose for about 4 days. She slept at my mums last night and mum called me at work today to say she had a temp. and was miserable and not eating. She still has no cough, so thats good. As Ive mentioned before she's never had sinus problems, but does this sound like a sinus thing, cold or virus? Mum went to the chemist and bought Narium(saline drops) and panadol for her fever. I called the hsp. and they said to put her on ceclor and she has an appt. to see him on Monday anyway. She's hardly ate anything as she cant eat and breathe at the same time. We have a vapouriser but I scared to use it with her because of the water in it. Will that have pseudo in it. Does anyone else use one? Any suggestions please. Guest guest
I avoid vaporizers. In fact, I don't think they are recommended too much to even the general public. It does help though to make sure your house has a healthy amount of humidity. We have a monitor that tells us the %. When it falls below 30% (winter) we turn on a room humidifier we bought via the internet. This humidifier combines steam with ultraviolet light to eliminate bacteria. We also empty the humidifier and clean it with a weak bleach solution once a week and we never let water just stand in it. (rinse really well after the bleach solution and then dry it out before adding new water. If your house gets too damp, that can also aggravate a cold and breed mold - over 50%. Then we turn on the air conditioner. Lori mom to Scout 2 wCF stuffy nose > Eilish has had a runny clear nose for about 4 days. Guest guest
Just ask your ENT doctor !! If I remember well it's because the UV rays dilate the vessels and thus congestion even more for example the nose. In any ENT problem one has to avoid sun exposure. I have a little anecdote on that.. when I was 13 I got my tonsils removed. The ENT doctor told me not to sunbath (it was summer) during 10 days after the surgery. Of course knew better ;-) and I went to the swimming pool... That evening I started bleeding from the throat.. hum.. I now know better ! -- I have never heard this. Where did you hear it? Guest guest
, Eilish's nose doesnt seem to be runny now just stuffy, so do you think the vapouriser would be okay then? BRian (husband) uses the " boogie sucker " , as we call it, not a very nice phrase but Eilish knows what it is and then he sprays narium which is saline solution up there. She wont let me do it only daddy. Poor daddy he's king of the boogie sucking, sprays and suppositries. So he'll come home on his lunch break and do it, and then again tonight. About the sunshine, Never heard of avoiding it before, only for the skin cancers. Can you explain. Guest guest
Lori, Im not sure how much humidity is in here, but its very hot as its summer so I think it would be over 10%. How would you know? We built this new home about 2 years ago, so it isnt damp or anything like that. I am actually wondereing if it could be an allergy that started it or hayfever and then its got infected? But who knows! I was up with her giving her panadol and putting the fan on for her to bring the temp. down. The last dose was 4am and it now 10am and she's still cool. She's playing and eating okay so far so I do hope its just one of those virus that come and go without to much problem. Thanks for the tips stuffy nose > > > > Eilish has had a runny clear nose for about 4 days. Guest guest
, I am not sure now whether I got mixed up between humidifier and vaporiser... But anyway, I don't know what the diffrence is !!! Actually talking about an humidifier. As per the humidity level, you would have to buy an hygrometer. this more and more comes along with digital house thermometers... But I had a look on CNN weather for Adelaide (you are living there, arent'you ?) and it sais there is 42 % humidity there.. plus usually, the hmes are a bit more humid than outdoors, so you wouldn't have to worry about humidifying your home -----Message d'origine----- De : Baxter Envoyé : jeudi, 14. décembre 2000 17:10 À : cfparentsegroups Objet : Re: stuffy nose , Eilish's nose doesnt seem to be runny now just stuffy, so do you think the vapouriser would be okay then? Guest guest
, Thanks for the humidity reading. I usually dont even watch the weather,as someone usually ends up telling me by the end of the day. If its hot is hots and cold its cold. If humidity is good well all have to move to Singapore. We spent two weeks there and one week in Malaysia for our honeymoon 10 years ago. When I left the airport I thought I couldnt breathe. The hostess said they have 95% humidity. Guest guest
, A Vapouriser is what you put water into and you can add oils or eucalyptus and they breathe it in whilst they sleep. It makes all the walls damp so you need to keep the door open. A hunidifier and purifier I dont know about either. Guest guest
We bought a little box that tells us what the humidity inside the house is. We got it from Sears here. I think it is called a humidistat or something similar. They are pretty cheap and give you good information. Lori stuffy nose > > > > > > > Eilish has had a runny clear nose for about 4 days. Guest guest
Hygrometer that is it! I can never remember that word. Here though we had to just look under humidity scale or something like that. When I used the real word no one knew what I was talking about. Here a vaporizer is a little steam machine people sometimes set in a kids room when they have stuffy noses. It has a place to add medicine - like eucalyptus or similar. They have a tendency to get things too wet and as we have already discussed the medicines commonly put in them aren't that healthy long term either. A humidifier puts out humidity at a slower more steady rate. It is built for more long term use. Guest guest
Well I think the sun interfered with bood clotting because it dilated my blood vessels. But in any case I can assure you that sun exposure is very bad when you have a cold, just ask your ENT doctor -----Message d'origine----- De : Lori Devoti Envoyé : vendredi, 15. décembre 2000 07:09 À : cfparentsegroups Objet : Re: stuffy nose Do you think that could have more to do with bleeding and the sum somehow interfering with blood clotting than with the sinuses themselves? Guest guest
Just wanted to share with everyone that we used a vaporizer for our son for a year when he was a baby. We would put the vaporizer next to his crib and drape a sheet over the crib to make it like a mist tent which is what they used at the hospital at that time. We started seeing a cf doctor in Kansas City, Mo and when they admitted him I told him he needed the mist tent but they refused. Little did we know that they no longer used mist tents for cf children because studies had shown that doing so caused more bacteria to grow in the lungs. We had been doing this for at least a year with our son and now looking back at that I believe it caused him on the stays in the hospital. So ask your doctor about using a vaporizer!!!!
