Guest guest
Congratulations Jeff! I'm glad that you are feeling better now that you've had the second hernia repair. So, that mesh stuff never showed up on x-rays? Regardless, it sounds like your surgeon was a top-notch professional, and I'm glad you were able to get yourself all fixed up before leaving the hospital! Hugs, Jen P.S. There's more wild ride to come!!!
Guest guest
Jeff, Wow, that was a ride. I'm glad everything went ok and you're home.Jeff wrote: Well what a ride, two for one !! First of all "THANKS" to everyone for all the prayers and well wishes. An a special thanks to MARY for communicating for me while I was out of the loop.I can not say enough about the care I received at UCLA, it turned out to be "5" star service after all. A special kudo to my surgeon Dr. Mehran for going well above what I had expected. You'll see why later in this message. My lap RNY went fine with no complications, I am sorry to say that the hernia repair had it's own complications. As I started the routine in take of liquids after surgery I started to experience pain in my abdomen, I thought it was from the hernia repair, it seemed like the same area to me. I was urinating normally. BUT I had passed no gas. The pain had increased and due to the nifty PCA I was able to numb myself. I was due to be released on Thursday afternoon, but due to traffic on the 405 I opted to leave Friday morning instead, less traffic at that time. Good thing I stayed that night. I was give all sorts of drugs to get me to pass gas, I was burping and that really helped, but no lower relief. Again, I can't tell you the pain I was in, and now I was off the PCA (DILAUDID) and give only Tylenol/codine (which I had to drink) because I was due to be discharged in the morning. Well that night I threw up a lot of liquid, it felt good and I actually got a couple of hours of sleep after that, I had not slept prior to that due to the pain. Again Friday morning after I woke I again threw up a lot of liquid, they were shocked at what I had done, where did it all come from….well here comes Dr. Mehran on his rounds and when he saw what was up he immediately took control and we spent the next several hours going into x-ray, fluoroscope, cat scans, he had lab work done, he stood by me in all the test, took the results himself for second opions and diagnosis from the various dept. heads. He said he could not see what was wrong with me and for the most part, I did not look sick, my bloodwork was OK, I did not have a fever, blood pressure was normal. After we spent almost 4 hours doing test that afternoon, and I might add I did not have to wait for any clearance to get these test, Dr. Mehran had just butted in on everyone from the CT to X-ray to get it done now..I was suffering but he could not find the problem, and all the RNY work was perfect, I also did the Barium thing again…. So what was it ???? Next thing I am in my room and Dr. Mehran shows up with Dr. Gracia @ 5:30 pm for a 2nd opinion Dr. Gracia asked me if I thought something was wrong, I said YEA, some things wrong, he told Dr. Mehran, theres your 2nd opinion, the patient knows when some things wrong…He told Dr. Mehran to go ahead and fix it !!! By 6:30 I was on my way into surgery. They found that the mesh used to fix my hernia had expanded and pinched my bowels causing the restriction. He fixed it and all is good today, but boy what a ride to get to here, I am very tired right now, I have been home since Monday.
