Guest guest
Hi everyone, Next week will be my 5 month mark post op. I am down 73 pounds since surgery and 105 altogether. I'm happy with the loss but sometimes hearing others reaching the 100 mark in the same amount of time gives me mixed feelings. First Im tremendously proud of them but on the other hand I wonder why Im not losing that fast. Oh the wonders of us all being different !! Do you count the century club as weight lost post op or altogether?? I have gone from a 30/32 pants to an 18/20 and shirts to a 16/18 from a 26/28. So Im happy. MY journey was a long one...I started the process in Sept. 2001 when my brother died of obesity at the age of 34. I didnt hear anything for about 6 months and didnt really follow thru due to grieving for my brother. Then in Sept of 2002 I started again. I began in SSF, then transferred to Richmond. My paper work kept getting lost but in Jan of 2003 I decided I wasnt gonna sit back and let Kaiser put me off anymore...my pcp wasnt supportive. I was finally approved in March 2003...had my consult with Dr Fisher in July and my orientation beginning of August. I had lost my 10% between programs and due to a cancellation was able to have surgery on August 19th. Im so grateful for this new tool. But I still need to learn to work with it instead of against it. Being 5 months out is weird since I can eat more and it scares me but Im losing 10 pounds a month so I can deal with that. Thank you all for your amazing support.
Guest guest
Hi , Glad to hear you're doing better! > Next week will be my 5 month mark post op. I am down 73 pounds since > surgery and 105 altogether. I'm happy with the loss but sometimes > hearing others reaching the 100 mark in the same amount of time gives > me mixed feelings. Didn't anyone ever tell you NOT to compare weight loss? It's really a bummer if you compare with the guys, so don't do it. If you're going to compare, compare with your own, pre-wls record! > Do you count the century club as weight lost > post op or altogether?? I have gone from a 30/32 pants to an 18/20 > and shirts to a 16/18 from a 26/28. So Im happy. Most people seem to include the pre-surgery weight loss. > MY journey was a long one...I started the process in Sept. 2001 when > my brother died of obesity at the age of 34. Yes, it's interesting figuring out how to live the rest of your life! Do remember to stick to the basics, at least 95% of the time. Protein, water, vitamins, exercise. You know, the standard. Fortunately, I seem to have gotten into a routine that works pretty well. Notice I said 95% of the time? Look, we live in the real world, and we do want real lives. To me, that means that OCCASIONALLY I permit myself something that isn't strictly kosher. That's okay, for me. I don't beat myself up about it, I don't tell myself I've screwed up, might as well hit the freezer section at the store for the ____________ (fill in the blank). I am NOT a failure. I tend to calculate ahead of time when I permit myself something, and that helps. Then I'm right back on track. Doing great so far! > Thank you all for your amazing support. Hope to see you at Wednesday's meeting! I'm glad you're feeling so much better, and less like a failure! -- Eleanor Oster eleanor@... I read the messages each day, but I do not post frequently. Just wanted to send my thanks for all the help on this board. Also, does anyone have Dr. Stiles email address?
