i ,

The hospital stay depends on how well you do after surgery. I was in the hospital for 4 days. The day after I had surgery I had a slight fever. Other that the usual pain that accompanies the surgery that was about the sum of my hospital stay. I had surgery in SSF and it is the best there. There is a very caring staff and my surgeon was DR Legha.

Usual you are assigned a surgeon rather than picking one. If you do request a surgeon it may slow things down for you. For my part all of the surgeons are excellent and well trained in their field. So stick to your guns and full speed ahead.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the anwsers to my past post. I am learning so much from

all your wonderful people!

So am I to understand that it takes about 6 months to get a surgery

date from time of telling your PCP that you will agree to the surgery?

And is there something about Richmond Kaiser I should be warned

about? I got the impression from those wanting to go to San Diego to

this PB that Kaiser Richmond isn't so good? Is SSF better?

I will wait 8 months if it means I get better care as a result.

Happy Monday posting everyone!

Hi all!

I just thought I'd pop in my 2 cents worth. I think that PB really looks

at each case individually, and I'm really lucky that I had my surgery with

them when I did (3/14/03). I was not required to lose any weight before

I was approved for my surgery, which is great because I physically could

not do it. And not for lack of trying!! I had high blood pressure and was

a type 2 diabetic. I gained 7 pounds in 6 months on Weight Watchers - and

do you know how frustrating it is to hear them ask in that same condescending

tone "Are you wearing heavier clothes? Maybe about to get your period?"

every single week at weigh-in?! I exercised at the gym a minimum of 4 days

per week and a minimum of 60 minutes per day and could only manage to maintain

my weight. And every 6 weeks or so, a little more weight would come on,

my blood sugars would get higher, and I'd have to increase the amount of

insulin I was taking. PB looked at my physical activity and food journals

and saw that there was nothing I could do to improve.

I have talked to other PB patients - some were required to complete 6 weeks

(or some other specified amount of time) of supervised exercise programs,

others needed to lose weight before they could be scheduled for surgery,

and even others like me who just needed to keep doing what we were doing

and try to maintain our weight. It was simply a case-by-case situation.

I don't mean to sound offended or defensive, but I just don't want anybody

thinking that any of us PBers "got lucky" with our referral since we got

out of having to lose that 10% - we had to work hard too!

Hugs,

Jen

Hi My name is lashunta and I am having surgery in richmond with

the greatest doctor Dr. Baggs, he is so nice and knowledgeable. I am currently

trying to lose the 10%. I can only tell you what I have experienced and

know but it seems that pb doesn't or at least at one time require the weight

lose and richmond does so I think people are talking about that when they

talk down about the program, I havent really heard noone talk really bad

about the dr's.

Oh and most now need to lose weight AND be

on a supervised exercise program with a personal trainer and get it documented.

That is what a few of the doctors are requiring now. FYI
