Guest guest
Chantelle- This is so interesting. I look forward to the time when Aubrie can explain what and how she sees and hears. Anyway-- she has nystagmus which affects distance vision. Do you know if you have that? Michele W Aubrie's mom Re: recognizing faces... do you see what I see? Um actualy if I see a face say 5 feet away, i can recongnize it 100 percent. its distance that faces start getting too blurry and I cant distinguash similar features. Take you and lisa weir, you two look a lot alike and ppl have said you look like sisters. Well from 20 feet, I dont know wich one of you is wich. yet if your standing right in front of me (say 5-10 feet) I know exactly who is who. I hope that explains it a bit better. Btw, my columbomas affect my upper visual feild. I cant remember if they are in the retna or someplace ele. Guest guest
This is interesting to me. One of our deafblind specialists several years ago (i.e., pre-Perkins) judged that could see " things " at 4-5 feet. As I've watched her over the years, I think first encounters require close, close looking. At times, after only one such meeting, she'll know who's with her. Initially, however, it often takes really checking out the person at EXTREMELY close range; of course, this makes some folks very uneasy (including this mother!) I've never found a way to make this simple for the person being " checked over. " Martha As happens at times, my computer has put my mail in odd batches. I hope I'm somewhat on target! Guest guest
Oops. I am getting mail a tad backwards. 's colobomas do extend to her optic nerve. Martha
Guest guest
Martha, I agree with you about 's vision. It seems so clear that she often needs " up close and personal " with new people and some new things, then she can go on and because she had that initial close inspection, the next time she does not need to be so close. She has that other " closer look " soemtimes that she does with people she knows that often appears to me as a loving gesture because she is not looking, just getting close (like a face hug!!) pam
Guest guest
A face hug! What a wonderful phrase. I'll try to always remember it when I (and the " I " should be in huge caps) feel uneasy! Martha
