Guest guest
Dylan goes to Arizona Schools for the Deaf and Blind. My other children go to K-8 and Ironwood Ridge High School in the Amphitheater district. You're welcome to give me a call when you are in town. Guest guest
Just a quick reply to your question about vision. At one of the programs for the deaf-blind, we used to use colored twinkle lights to help orient low vision kids as to where they were in the building. You can now get the kind that operate on batteries or plug in the outlet. In different places in the building, there would be different colors, yellow for the bathroom area, green to the speech rooms, etc. You may be able to adapt something similar in your home using these lights. If you're concerned about using them with small children, places them higher on the wall and use the kind that don't need to be plugged in. 3M makes a hanger that can be placed temporarily on a surface and later removed without damaging the wall of leaving marks. Hope this helps. Maybe put down some bright coloured Pokeman towels along his route for now, and gently guide him to follow on them, that way avoiding some of those nasty corners. Ann Gloyn, Specialist Teacher, Canada > Ethan has started crawling within the last couple of weeks. He has bilateral colobomas and one smaller eye with virtually no vision. He does see well enough to reach and find toys close to him. However, since he began to crawl, we have noticed that he cuts corners very close when crawling into another room (especially when he turns to his right - his bad eye). I'm guessing he has no peripheral vision with that eye. I'm wondering if there is any accomodation I can make so that he can avoid bumping into the wall or maybe he'll just learn his way around the house the hard way? I will consult with Ethan's vision specialist, but thought I'd ask those who know best! > > Thanks, > Jody - mom to Ethan (19 mo ChARGE) and (4) Kathy Pongor, Resource & Technology Teacher KDES, Gallaudet University 800 Florida Ave NE Washington DC 20002 Washington DC 2002
