Hi Mike ... It's good to question ... be an informed consumer ... this is a

major event in your life ... you can relax a bit ... a resurfaced joint is more

difficult to dislocate than a THR ... the ease of dislocation varies by

individual. My hip shape allows for a easier dilocation on inward rotation than

most ... I was at a higher risk for he first six weeks ... my leg was in a brace

to prevent me from bending the knee and twisting inward ... I survived ... no

dislocation ... I was resurfaced 17Jan02 with a C2K. Regarding pain ... no

pain post-op, only some muscle ache. I had an epidural, no need to use the pump

for break thru pain (there was none). No need for any pain meds. Took Vicadin

(once) at everyones insistance but it left me nausious. Regarding herbs - be

careful ... if you use anything for self medication ... advise your Dr as to

what you're doing. Don't run the risk medication problems. Regarding sleep ...

I slept on my back for 5 weeks, then I stuck a pillow between my legs and slept

on either side. Be careful, obey restrictions and move slowly into new

positions (don't jump out of a chair to answer the phone - that smarts!)). Be

aware that as you start feeling better you're more inclined to do something dumb

(violate restrictions). You'll be fine ... and amazed at how painless this

really is.
