Guest guest
Hello All, Thanks to this group and the ActiveJoints web site, I am now the proud owner of a 58mm Conserve+. Actually, thanks to many more than that, but without the web site and the surfacehippy mailing list, I may still be hobbling around on a deformed joint. The activejoints web site was where I first learned about resurfacing as an alternative to a THR. The surfacehippy mailing list helped answer my many many questions, and convinced me that resurfacing was the way to go. I'm 39 and at age 11 or 12 was informed that my left hip had had Legg Perthes disease. The result was a deformed joint that caused pain whenever I overexerted it. This past year things had been going downhill fast to the point that I restricted my walking to only what was necessary. That meant that I no longer went on walks, my wife mowed the lawn, etc. I just wasn't ready to slow down to that level of inactivity, so resurfacing offered the hope that things could be different. So now I am hobbling around at 50-75% weight-bearing, but I anticipate more and more mobility every day. I have high regards for Dr. Boyd (Salem, Oregon) and the nursing staff at the Salem Hospital. Dr Boyd is an excellent surgeon. He studied under Dr. Amstutz, the developer of the Conserve+ prosthesis. He has done over 80 Conserve+ operations in the year and a half that he has been doing them. BTW, , Jorden, RN from Salem, said to tell you hello. I'm looking forward to gradually getting my active life back. Thanks again to the group. I haven't been a very active contributer, but I read with interest the relevant posts. Cheers, Smucker
