Guest guest
We had our back porch completely redone by our church 2 years ago and I Judy and I are very happy for what they did for us especially since they did it without us asking them to do it. Here are some photo's of our porch and a few who did it. My big complaint is usually I am impatient about getting a simple job done. Mainly because all those things I need help with I can if it wasn't for this dumb MS. Bill Re: BACK FROM SC Bill, I can't seem to recall whether or not you are part of a church or other religious affiliation, but, when there is stuff going on here, that I'm either too fatigued, in pain or otherwise unable to 'do', my church offers to step in. As a matter of fact, yesterday when I went to church--we hadn't been there for 2 or 3 wks, the woman who heads up 'CareGiving'/Practical needs came up to me and said, oh I haven't seen you for so long, how are you feeling? Could you use any meals made for you? I said I'm ok for now, but will let her know. There was a period of about 2 mos when I was real bad that different folk in the church would make 3 to 4 meals a wk! It took me some time over the last few years to be able to 'accept' or even ask for any kind of assistance. For whatever reason, it also embarrasses my husband terribly. I just remember something a dear friend of mine years ago said: Receive as graciously as well as the giver is giving. I'm having, with my foot and leg troubles, all sorts of challenges keeping up with the housework. For awhile there I was having 2 women come in every 3 wks. They'd do an awesome job, but it would cost $120, plus sometimes they needed extra $ for supplies. My husband is real down on me arranging for them, so I'm going to have to tell them I cannot afford it. Who knows, maybe we could do it, say 3x a year? We have our big hallway that we began painting, that needs to be finished, and the white trim also in my kitchen. I'm going to attempt to get those jobs done myself over the summer. The kids might be able to give me a hand, if they are careful! Take care of yourself, Bill. I know it is all very frustrating for you~kate still always bugs me that there are several things around the house that need to be done and they are all very simple things for me to do as a healthy person and now if my son or Judy can't fix it I end up having to pay a lot of money for an easy repair. I can't use ladders at all I did have some house wiring and Judy jumped in and got it done for me. She did good following my instructions. Bill .. Guest guest
Bill~ That was so nice of your church friends to help you and Judy out with this. I'm sure it has made life a little easier for you. How nice it is to have such great friends! God bless...Val I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. 3rd 1:4 Re: BACK FROM SC Bill, I can't seem to recall whether or not you are part of a church or other religious affiliation, but, when there is stuff going on here, that I'm either too fatigued, in pain or otherwise unable to 'do', my church offers to step in. Guest guest
When Bob who did most of the work came over to ask what we need done to the porch. I looked around and told him maybe those 2 walls that were in bad shape. He told me OK and then he came back the next day and said when I do a job I want to do good well job. Our home was a double for many years and when Judy and I took over the house we decided after living in the home for 3 years to make it a single home again. We had a rentor for 3 years. Bob ended up redoing the whole porch. In one photo you can see where they took out the apartment door. Our back porch looks better than it probably ever looked. Guest guest
We haven't seen many bees either this year. My BIL is a honey maker too but I haven't heard him complain yet, but that doesn't mean anything. We only have 2 tomato plants this year. We did a garden one year, my daughter wanted it. Of course, she didn't take care of it, so that was that, lol!!!! Everyones grass is burnt to a crisp, its crazy, people are still mowing the lawn, like its a ritual that can't be broken, lol!!! The only good thing I'm seeing is not that many misquitos!!! I'm doing ok, very tired, haven't been sleeping well at night lately. Back has been giving me problems and my anxiety is really bad. Have an appt. with a hypnotherapist and am scheduling an appt. with a psychiatrist. I think I'm beyond talk therapy. The medicine I'm on, Xanax isn't enough. I hope all is well with you. Hugs, Peggy > > Yeah Peggy, some of our poor wittle wiltin' to-maters and cukes are singing the sad tune of the horrific heat and humidity. We had a neighbor come by every 2 days to water...but alas we lost some stuff! boo-hoo. Still do have some fairly large tomatoes that are still green. Hoo-boy--funny story--last Halloween we had couple 3 or so pumpkins/jack O lanterns out on our front porch. When they got 'icky' we kinda pushed em off the sill. Well, you would NOT believe your eyes! Pumpkins growing like you just wouldn't believe! WE have a regular ol' pumpkin patch! All them yellow/orange flowers are just everywhere. Hey--is just NY or is it everywhere that the bees are not populated like they used to be?? There is some sort of story, not sure if it's true, that cell phones are to blame for the decline of the honey bee. But we surely need the bees to come do their job of pollenating! Hopefully, we'll have our own big crop of punkins this fall! > How you been Peggy? I'm proud of you doing your shots, girl! That is AWESOME! Congrats! love to you and all on list, kate > Re: BACK FROM SC > > > Welcome back Kate, glad you made it safely. Guest guest
I'm ok Kate. A 20 mile ride? I'm exhausted just thinking about it. ~Trista~********************************When the world says, "give up,"Hope whispers, "try it one more time." BACK FROM SC We left Myrtle Beach yesterday at 2pm, and arrived safely, though exhausted, at home in NY by 1:30 this am. For some reason, I HAD to get up at 8am--the sun was shining; I knew there were 16 phone messages flashing on the machine, and a huge pile of snail mail to poke through--loads of junk, but too many bills also! I so missed all of you so much; glad to be home; sleep in my own bed. Today is clear, 81 and so much less humid than SC--and NY too. Apparently, it had been brutally hot and humid here when we were gone; so I'm glad we 'missed' it here! How is everyone faring? I hope well. I'm trying to play a bit O catch-up on emails, though I have to admit I'm not reading each and every one--a bit too tedious for me, but certainly the many that even arrived in the last 2 days! Glad we were able to at least launder all our clothes before we came home, so it is one less thing to do now. But there's the usual unpacking and putting away. My focus now that I'm home is :"re-parenting"; I saw a Dr. Phil show while we were away that showed a dad/husband very akin to my spouse. Anyways, I bought the book by him, 'Family First', and it really has some awesome tools, advice and recommendations for improving and repairing relationships with your kids, and getting back on track in terms of discipline, etc.My other list of stuff is: getting in shape for the MS bike tour, Sept.30-I'll be trying to do a 20 mile ride. Earlier in Sept. there is a swim across the Hudson for MS--but I'll do what I did last time-kayak. So, I have my work cut out for me. Lastly, I will be looking into more employment for the fall.More than likely, another nursery school or day care center. Thanks for listening to me babble. love to all, kate
Guest guest
Re: BACK FROM SC Hi Peggy~ A hypnotherapist? Do you mind if I ask with what issues you are seeking one? I'm curious, as there was some thought of early child abuse...and, well, on one hand, I'd like to do some 'digging' via a hypnotherapist...On the other hand..it seems, might be best to leave well enough alone. I've also considered seeking one out for help with weight and also my horrible fear of dentists! Which...I'll need to see soon..As I lost a tooth in SC, and never replaced another one I lost--and, they're kinda important ones--not the front teeth fortunately...but molars. Have you tried the memory foam or I forget the other name for it--as a mattress pad to help with your back? You need your sleep! blessings, kate We haven't seen many bees either this year. Guest guest
Kate, I have alot of supressed(sp)anxiety issues with my childhood. Not physical abuse but mental/verbal abuse. It goes way back. My father was a very controlling person. I'm not sure how it's going to work. I saw her today for the first time. I also have an appt. with a psychiatrist next month. I'm not sure who is going to help me the most. My husband used self hypnosis to help him quit smoking. It helped him to calm himself but the patch really is what got him to quit, the over the counter one. I haven't gotten the pad for the bed yet, hubby gets sticker shock at the store so I need to do it when he isn't around, lol!!! I know I need something, our bed is shot.
