Guest guest
Jewls, that makes me furious. I'm curious about the Clinton bill too. I thought that insurance companies had to cover pre-existing conditions. Maybe their way of getting around that is to just deny coverage. Most places where my husband and I have worked have never inquired about previous conditions. If they did, I'm certain I forgot to mention having GD since it was treated. One insurance company did tell me that if you were treated or undergoing treatment or in remission, the insurances companies didn't care. I can't see why the insurance company wouldn't cover your family and add you after 6 months. I'd petition this, and do further checking on this. Let us know if you find out anything. Guest guest
Jewls, I will do a search for you on the Bill...it was passed but it may not go into effect in all states until a specific date. In NY no insurance company has the right to even ASK if there are existing medical conditions!!! Will go do a search now and I have a call into my Congressmans office regarding the bill, when it was passed, where it can be located etc. They are usually pretty prompt in getting back to me, so hopefully this afternoon I will have some kind of an answer for you, being Friday and lunch time, it may be Monday though. Also, you need to call your hubbys company, get the name and address of the insurance company (btw I don't know if it is federal or state but companies here offering insurance MUST give at least 2 to choose from, ours gives 4), also point out to them that your husband and daughter do NOT have GD and that while you are looking into this ALL of you have the RIGHT to be covered for all other medical purposes!!! If they turned you down because of GD...make sure you get a letter from them, GET IT IN WRITING!!! It may take a call to a lawyers office to have them write to the insurance company and threaten to sue them but it would be worth it. Call the company though, they do not have the right to turn you down for ANY other medical coverage, not for you, your daughter or your husband!!! I will get back to you on this as soon as I have some info. *HUGZ* Jody ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Guest guest
Jewls, If you are buying private insurance instead of through work and you don't tell them about your GD and they start getting bills over it, then request history on it and see when your diagnosis was, it could end up costing you financially in the long run. Unless they don't ASK about pre-existing conditions when applying, which is what I believe the law is that has been passed. Am still waiting to hear from my Congressonman's office. Guest guest
And at 55 you can also get supplemental through AARP which worked wonderfully for my mom and my aunt...and it covered all pre-existing conditions. Guest guest
I believe if there is no break in coverage there is no pre-existing condition problem. When one is out of coverage and a " cold " applicant for insurance the questions can be asked. I have been a direct-private back-breaking premium-paying subscriber (no group benefits like prescription coverage) for nine years to an HMO. Terrified of catastrophic illness, I have paid through the nose. I am the only woman in the world who wants to be 65 so she can be covered by major medical under Medicare (whether good coverage or not, it is *real* coverage and it will be all mine!). Guest guest
It would be a violation of the policy and the insurance company would not have to pay claiming fraud for withholding information. That is the advantage of group coverage. No questions are asked. I have known people to take jobs solely on the basis of group health insurance coverage. Guest guest
Hi Jewls- Last year I tried to find insurance on my own because I wasn't happy with our HMO. As soon as I mentioned that I had Graves' I never got another call back from these companies. When I pursued it they said they wouldn't cover preexisting conditions. I wanted one of those 80/20 deals so I could have the doctor of my choice. At that time my endo wasn't covered under our insurance and he was very nice to see me for free as a professional courtesy to my hubby. I felt very guilty especially since he spent so much time with me (I offered to pay him but he refused). Since I couldn't get any private insurance, I asked about the policy that allows you to see any doctor through our HMO. It would've cost $1000/mo and we just couldn't afford that. My endo ended up being covered by my HMO after a year so there's no longer a problem. My problem wasn't nearly so bad as yours but it was still frustrating just the same. Take care,
Guest guest
This pre-existing condition insurance thing reminds me of when I was trying to obtain life insurance. The insurance companies all wanted to know what prescriptions I took. Well, when I listed an antidepressant , all of the sudden I couldn't get any company to give me life insurance, (and I was 32 years old!!!). . The life insurance people also asked me how old my natural parents were when they died and what they died of. Of course , I told them that my mother committed suicide. Let me tell you that did not go over well with the insurance companies either. I finally found one company to cover me but I noticed that my rates were a lot higher than my husbands rates and we are the same age. Is there no end to the questions that they can ask you?? e Re: Insurance and Graves > Hi Jewls- > > Last year I tried to find insurance on my own because I wasn't happy with our HMO. Guest guest
They have a product and we want to buy it. Unfortunately, they can set the price with very little interference or regulation. I think the whole muddle of insurance " protection " is a travesty.
