a while , when you doc brings you down, it makes people weep and touchy, some

people go off the edge. There is a great book called every thing you wanted

to know Prednisone, which I highly recomend to every one on this group who

taks Pred.

I used to take Xanax for the bad crying when I was coming down from 90 mg of

pred, but I no longer take it. I am at 40 mg of pred and I think for me, its

been a year of Pred, I am used to it now and the mental effects and just try

to deal the best way I can, I now think before I talk when I am sad or angry

and I am better off then taking the Xanax.

I think anyone with an illness of any kind needs an anti-depressant. Who

As much as I hate to admit it, I do take an antidepressant. My first

year on pred had my mind on a rollacoaster. I had always been a very strong

person, in Management and field support. Made important decisions everyday.

Forgive me people, But I used to think that most of these feelings and mood

swings were weaknesses. How terribly wrong I was. Depression can make you

physically ill, and prevent you from copeing with things and not knowing

why. Except for an advill for headache, I had never taken any type of pills.

Now I take 24 tablets a day. I tried tapering off all of them. No can do! I

need the pred, the sugar pills, the vitamins, and the pain pills. I know now

that I cannot survive without them. So during my last trip to the ER my doc

prescribed Wellbutrin and I also take Adivan on bad days and at bedtime to

help me sleep.

You don't have to be on pred or be sick to need an antidepressant.

I STILL HATE PILLS!!

Hi Roy,

I have been on antidepressants for 20 yrs with the pred. I take 200mgs

to 250mgs a night to sleep a few hours. Deseryl is the name. I cannot be

without them now I am dependant on this antidep.

pred very weepy one minute but I can turn on you in a split second I am like

sybil on pred. it is not a weakness it is a biological fact that some people

have a chemical thing going on naturally that prevents the body from

producing the particular harmone that helps with depression and mood swings.

Roy and all- Pete takes 2 antidepressants..I'm not sure this is totally

because of prednisone..he takes zoloft 50mg and takes trazadone 50mg at

bedtime to help him sleep..when coming down from the pred like he is now he

gets squirelly(sp?) and he usaually takes xanax 2xs a day but when coming

down on the prednisone he takes extra..iut helps his mood and I think he

deserves all the help he needs...Janet

well just remember its NOT a sign of weakness to take them, at some

point in our lives we all need them. They will help so don't stop taking them

until the doc says for you too...Now go take that calcium also...LOL

BUT, I am now taking them because of my father's death. I just can't seem to

get my shit together, so I gave in and went to my doc and she immediately

I never used to take antidepressants when I was coming

off pred for asthma, the girls used to refer to it as

'that medicine that makes Liz crazy' but when my

rheumy recently suggested I try something, I thought

'why not' and have to admit to feeling a lot better, I

am not depressed (I did not realise I WAS depressed),

I am sleeping better, and my cramps have improved

enormously. So its worth trying if you are having

problems, but as we all know different meds have

different effects on different people!! Love Liz

Oh, Jim, I do so agree, I told my rheumatologist I was

used to being superwoman and coping with everything,

He was very sweet, he said you're still superwoman,

but now you need a little help! I try to think of the

meds as things to get my body into balance, which

I have take the anti depressant Prozac for several years since taking the

Prednisone. Prednisone makes me very depressed not to mention that it turns

me into a real Psycho Animal!!!! So in answer to your question. Yes, I feel

the need to take it.

I take antidepressants. ad theyare hepful. lso, and again not to scare

anone, but the stroids ls made my literally pschotic. ortnately i diid

know it could happen and knew what it was when it was happening. ihad

to g on anti=psychotics for the rest ofthe tim I was on pred. I took

stelazine. and it worked well.

I forgot to say i take and antidepressant zoloft, another antidepressant

surmontil ( a weaker doze at bedtime to help me sleep-one of he side

effects of this mediction) I also take buspar. they are working and i

was told if they are working don't fx it. but i too hate pills. but

they are necessary and i have to accept that. i used to be on two boot

shoeboxes f meds. it ws all i could do to take them rightand often

needed help. ihad to get two of the large size daily pill minders. i

filled tem once a wekk tatway i didi not have to hink all the time and

it helped me keep track ofthem

Just a not on antidepressants: these mds although fr the most part non

addictive ==it is important not tostoptem cold turkey, but should b

tapered off under doctors supervision.

i have go news, the cultures are bac andthe internal bleeding has

stopped!!!!!!so we don'thaveto g in tere andfind out what was hapening.

it could ave bee caused by the vioxx. a couple of hospitalizatins go i

also developed an internal bleed. theycould not find the cause and were

abut t do an eploratory surgery when it just stopped. thank god. so i

was so ratefl that the news is good fr a change. hanksfor all the

praers.

When I was on 80mg of pred a day I had a very hard time with my

emotions. Of course living w/ Blain didn't help either LOL! I ended up

having to take Ativan and it helped. Felt like I was going to crawl out

of my skin at times.

So glad you don't have to go through more testing! You have been

through so much already!

just something interesting.... anti-depressants........ some studies are

indicating that the use of antidepressants in people with chronic pain not

only helpes the depression but lessens the pain by interferring insome way

with the neuro-transmitters........ So I know that my physician actually has

encouraged me to consider taking an antidepressant for the " pain relief "

effects attributed to them....

As far as Prednisone......... it just makes us feel EMOTIONALLY LABILE!

since they tok me off vioxx nd the throwing up stopped, an tey putme on

depacote adthe headaches gtunder control, my pain level has on done to a

manageable level. i have had cuple of really oodweeks' unfortunately

i woke up this morning with a ood old fashioned head cold i am still on

antibiotics) so-oh well. a lot better than it ws. a slot of rest and

liquids wil hopefullyhelp that.
