I had a weird reaction right after lunch. I was dizzy and felt I could pass out.

I ate salmon (canned). I had 1 cup milk with a scoop of Designer Protein. I took

blood sugar quite a while after eating and it was 114. It was 113 when I got up.

I went in to lay down. Wouldn't you know the direct TV receiver in the bedroom

is out. Just went out because it was on this morning. I rested anyway. I can

play tapes. I planned to nap but didn't. Blood pressure kept getting lower and

pulse faster.

I took blood pressure and it was low and pulse was fast. I have had this before

on low carb diet. I ate some salty food as salt sometimes helps but it did not.

Now I am trying sugar after talking to my diabetic friend.

I had a problem with fast heart because of thyroid. Now I am taking only one

quarter of .25 grain synthroid. I wanted not to take it as it can give me

fibrillation. Dr had a fit and said I have to take it. I take a Beta blocker and

the pulse without that would have been very high.

I will try to get into the Dr tomorrow. I need prescriptions anyway. I am

thinking of going on the 40-30-30 diabetic plan now and not worry so much about

the very low carb and low cal.

I was supposed to go out tonight and drive two ladies to a meeting but I

cancelled. And I cancelled lunch out tomorrow and also may cancel driving 45

miles and back on Thur. My husband will be here Thur night and can fix the TV

and pick me up or call 911 if I pass out.

Any thoughts in the meantime? G

Sorry, this happened to you. And sorry I didn't see your message

any sooner. It's probably been a long day for you.

I would be out of my depth to make any big guesses here.

Talking to your doctor would be the only thing I could suggest.

Dizziness is sometimes a symptom of low blood sugar, but your

numbers, 114 and 113, don't seem low enough to cause that, unless you

had a very rapid, sudden drop. But 114 and 113 taken at different times

seems stable.

Dizziness can also be asymptom of low blood pressure. I think

(emphasize: not sure here) that your heart might compensate for low

blood pressure by pumping faster. So perhaps this is a blood pressure

problem? I've heard that beta blockers should not be stopped

suddenly. Be sure to keep taking them and talk to your doctor.

Your combination of diabetes, hypertension and thyroid stretch

beyond what even *I* think I know.

hope you're already feeling better.

I relate it to the low carb diet as I did one before and every day each week

when the carbs were extra low, I had this problem. Low blood pressure and very

fast pulse. I did water, and salt, and carbs and sugar, and potassium. None of

it made a difference last night. G

Dear Glory33,

It sounds like too much beta blocker. You didn't give your numbers.

What were your systolic, your diastolic, and your pulse. Don't let

your pulse or your diastolic get below 60. If you are dropping, lie

down flat to get your feet level with your heart, and drink plenty of

water and use salt to try to rehydrate yourself. Break your beta

blockers in half and keep monitoring your blood pressure. I don't

know why you would associate your blood pressure or pulse with a low-

carb diet. Yes, the racing pulse is probably due to the Synthroid.

You must have your thyroid function monitored frequently and your

meds adjusted accordingly, because that function is constantly

changing.
