Not to discourage you in any way, but Ian's language surge began the

next day. It was as if a light switch was flipped in his little

brain. The words spoken are still that of an apraxic child, but

they are increasing daily.

Colleen -

The breakthrough depends on your child but sometimes comes around 3-4 weeks

after starting the supps. We noticed a surge in Josh within a very short time

but part of me thinks it's because he had been in speech therapy for awhile

before starting the supps - maybe something clicked once the oils were in him?

The kids sometimes go in phases after that - they can plateau and then have

another surge (especially if you increase the supps). It will happen, though,

and when that first mommy or mama (or approximation) comes out, you just start

crying! Before you know it, you'll be saying something to your son that you

never thought you'd say - " Be quiet, please! "

It will happen - just remember to be encouraging and loving to your son.

My daughter is 26 months old, and started her Proefa's at about 20 months.

We saw improved attention, eye contact at first. Her first language surge came

with sign language 2 months ago. After that, I increased her to 2 capsules

per day. She seems to be going through a new surge again now, this time with

sounds and word approximations. It's so great to see such progress- I'm very

encouraged! Still no " mommy " yet, but I know it will come!

Best of luck to you!

My son started the Pro-EFA back in November when he was 19 months

old. He said " dada " for the first time that night! BUT his " surge "

was much less profound after that. We noted increased attention,

better eye contact, more babbling of sounds, and an overall feeling

that receptive skills were improving. He is also in Speech therapy

4 times weekly so we had a LOT of wonderful speech therapy going

on. We increased his dosage to 2 capsules/day approximately 6 weeks

ago and we have seen a HUGE increase in vocal/verbal skills since

then. He can now imitate sounds readily, has about 20 words that he

can repeat, he says " more " and " no " independently and often!!!

Again, we have wonderful speech therapists working with us 4 times

per week, and I am a speech pathologist myself. I think of the fish

oil this way-----the oils allow my son to learn all the wonderful

things the speech therapists have been trying to teach him for 9

months now. Your son may need to work on pre-language skills before

he can start forming more " real " words. Don't despair!!! Progress

will come but for some of us it comes quite slowly. You might think

of increasing his dosage and see how that goes.

Good luck!!!
