Guest guest
Hi everyone, If anyone out there has any information on Language Based Kindergarten classes in New Jersey please forward it to me. The school system my son is in, in so many words suggested that he would be put in a Language Based Kindergarten next Sept. and his services would be cut at least to a degree ie. speech and ot . (I said to myself " NOT " ). However the IEP will be in May sometime so I want to go armed and dangerous. Hopefully I will with your help. You can email me privately as well at sedona508@... Thank you in advance Kim

Guest guest
Hi, Kim - Josh is in a language based kindergarten in Illinois - had been in language based developmental pre-K for two years as well. The way it was described to us at the time was that all the kids in the class have speech issues of one type or another (actually several had apraxia, others had other speech issues). There were two lead teachers in the pre-K - one was a SLP, the other was a special ed teacher with " training " in speech issues. The SLP designed all the programs to incorporate speech therapy methods so that the other teacher and the aides all were reinforcing the methods being used in the therapy sessions - for the entire time Josh was in school (2 1/2 hours daily in pre-K) - this was in addition to the individual therapy sessions and group sessions with anywhere from two to five other kids. The kindergarten is also, as I said, language based. The special ed teacher has taught kids with speech issues (along with other issues) for the last 20 years and is fantastic - the SLP Josh now has does a individual sessions and group, then also designs language/speech method components to different activities that the teacher has planned - everything from math to science - so that the therapies are reinforced all day long. Josh is exhausted everyday! Just so you know - we had to really push for a definition of what " language based classroom " meant - we still weren't happy with the definition we were given until we went to observe and were very impressed. Good luck! Sherry sedona508@... wrote: Hi everyone, If anyone out there has any information on Language Based Kindergarten classes in New Jersey please forward it to me.
