Are you trying to get blood from your arm? I can't get any blood from my

arm, and I just bruise it trying.

Are you using the sides of your figngers, right by the nails. If you set the

lancet depth at its deepest and use your pinky, the side of the pinky, you

should get a river of blood!!!! Are you sure there's a lancet in the lancet

device??? <grin>

Hi Skye,

A couple of questions---

Is your " lancing device " adjustable, and if so have you adjusted it for

deeper penetration?

Where are you testing? I will assume for now that it's your fingers.

I test on the sides of my fingers from the first joint to the tip, not on

the pads. Testing on the sides is less painful (virtually none for me) because

there's less nerves there.

I recommend washing hands in hot-water which will help the blood flow in the

fingers.

Then, I " milk " the finger, circling the base with the fingers of my other

hand & slowly pulling toward the tip, to force blood toward the tip.

As I recall, your " FreeStyle " meter can be used for alternate site testing

(arm/leg, etc). I've tried lancing in those areas, and had little success

getting sufficient blood for testing. If you're trying alternate sites (not

fingers), then maybe someone else using that system can offer helpful advice.

For me, the fingers work just fine, and I've been testing 4-6 times a day

now for 6 years and still no sore fingers. I use one finger (not thumb) a day,

so it's 8-days before I get back to the same finger.

, T2, dx'ed 4/98, Average bg 100mg/dl, last HbA1c 6.0%, controlling

with LC

....I got this free " FreeStyle " monitor.

....I tried 2 or 3 or more times and it never would get enough blood for a

sample.

What can we do??

You don't have to use the poker thingy that comes with your meter. I

have one that came with an Elite meter - a meter I no longer use - but I

use the poker all the time. It's adjustable, so you can make the little

needle go in deeper, or not so deep. Check around at your local

pharmacy for different brands, they are sold separately, until you find

one with several different depth adjustments. I have one of those pen

type pokers that came with the meter I use now, but have never been able

to figure out how to use it - so I " stick " with the one that works.

  • 2 weeks later...

We have some new products in the grocery stores called Carb Options and I

thought to try one by Lipton called Creamy Pesto - the pkg weight is listed as

98g

In the cooking directions it ends with " Makes 4 1/2 cup servings " . The

Nutritional Info, however is given " per 25g serving as sold " What the heck

does that mean & how do I figure the cabs in the 1/2 cup serving???
