Guest guest
I had molluscum as a child and had them burned off by derm with liquid nitrogen. I clearly remember laying on my stomach and having all 54 burned off the backside of my knees. Not a pleasant experience! As a child, I also had many warts removed over the years...the fact that I was a competitive swimmer and frequently in swimming pools was always deemed the culprit, although I'm not sure if that is really true. I was somewhat miffed to learn later (via a friend who is now a dermatologist herself) that molluscum usually disappear on their own and they rarely recommend removing them as I had done. Being in the public pool frequently was one of the reasons I was told that the boys probably had them as well. Don't know if that is true or not. Our dr did actually tell us that eventually they should go away on their own. In our case she resorted to the appt for the liquid nitrogen due to the number, location and inability to refrain from picking. I will say that the older boy (he was 4) that had them taken off had to go back 3 times as they kept coming back. He still has a few scars on his chest that you can barely see now. The younger brother that prayed for his to disappear had in excess of 100 spots...we quit counting after 100 but there were a pile more and they were all gone by the very next morning....couldn't even tell he'd ever had them...pretty cool. Guest guest
had probably over a thousand spots. The pediatrician told us to put some steroid cream on the molluscum, and that made them explode all over her legs. They were covered in molluscum. The dermatologist said it would be too painful to do much of anything. He did prescribe some retin-A cream that helped to sort of burn them off. It didn't hurt , and they finally went away after a few months. She doesn't have any scars, thank goodness. > t>he fact that I was a competitive swimmer and frequently in > swimming pools was always deemed the culprit, although I'm not sure > if that is really true. > > >I was somewhat miffed to learn later (via a friend who is now a > dermatologist herself) that molluscum usually disappear on their own > and they rarely recommend removing them as I had done. > > > Being in the public pool frequently was one of the reasons I was told that > the boys probably had them as well.
