Guest guest Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Hi : I just started using Estradiol last month. I have Dysesthetic vulvodynia with mild vvs. I started using it on my thigh for hormone replacement, all of my hormones are really low. Then I figured I would use it around my vagina because I am using Atropine suppositories and they dry you out. I didn't want to use it around my vagina because I heard it can feed yeast. But so far no yeast. Anyway, since I have been using it, I don't get the post sex flare up burning any more. I have had this for over four years and would always burn after sex. I am going to continue with it. I just don't know how often to use it around my vagina. How often are you using it? What is your dose? Sherri --------- my treatment (Lia) Hi.... For depression, I take effexor 112mg. For vulvar pain, I take 50 mg elavil and 25 mg nortriptyline. I have been pain free on all elavil, but the sedation really bothers me, so that's why I swapped 25mg elavil for 25 nortrip. I am not pain free now, but I have been, so I know it's possible. And my pain now is minimal. Minimal, but annoying. Unfortunately, when I don't keep up with exercises my pt gave me, I have more pain, and I have slacked off on them. I am going to talk to my doc about lyrica, to see if I could get better results. I did really well in the past with a tricyclic/neurontin combo, but couldn't tolerate neurontin's side effects, so had to get off it. Unfortunately for me... Elavil just works better than nortrip or desipramine. I've heard of women getting pain free with Effexor at 150 or more, and I tried that, but found it didn't impact my pain. We're all so different! I also take DHEA because my hormone tests indicated that was low, and I use estradiol at night to keep the skin in that area in good shape. I had surgery which was great for contact pain and has enabled me to have sex. For depression, I have always done great with prozac, but I hate the side effects too much to take it. Hope this helps some.... Unfortunately for me, my road with depression has been long so I have taken a lot of different drugs for that. Lia Quote
Guest guest Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 So you are inserting the Estradiol into the vagina? Maybe you would benefit from the Vagifem insertable tab - its less messy. Guest guest Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Hi: No, I'm not inserting it. It is compounded in Aloe Gel and is like a gel consistancy. I put a small amount around the opening, and a larger amount on my thigh for hormone replacement. I hope I don't overdose on Estradiol!! Sherri --------- my treatment (Lia) Hi.... Guest guest Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 I have LS, and was given premarin cream at first for two weeks. Found some relief with that, but now Doc took me off that and gave me tablets with applicator to insert vaginally. (Estradoil). Looks like 25 units on box. Doc says use two tablets a week, although box says use for two weeks at first. I was on HRT for 6 months and then went off it - had no vaginal pain when on that, but was afraid to stay on HRT. Don't know what this Estradoil will do as have only taken one so far. Thanks for reply. my treatment (Lia) Hi.... For depression, I take effexor 112mg. Guest guest Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Oh, So then you are applying to your vulva and vestibule and not vaginally. If you are using the cream like the doc prescribed ( I mean in the qty he prescribed) , you most likely aren't in danger of O'Ding. Thats what I did with the testosterone , measure out what they said I could use and then use a tiny bit of it for the vulvar tissue and vestibule Glad its helping. Are you perimeno or meno? Guest guest Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Hi Dusty: Thanks for the info. I don't know if I am perimeno or meno. How do you know what you are? I'm 49, still get a period pretty much every month. But all of my hormones are really, really low. I use the Estradiol on my thigh and vestibule. Guest guest Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 You know for sure by having blood work done to test your hormone levels. You can kinda tell if you have begun having some of the meno symptoms - i.e. sweating, sleeplessness, heart palpitations, crying jags - and a whole lot of other things.... see http://www.minniepauz.com/35symptoms.html Not all women have the symptoms, but if you do - there's NO mistaking them (LOL) . You seem to have it under control though if you already know about your low hormones . Guest guest Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 OK...............I'm meno.........I have all of the symptoms. In my next life, I am coming back as a man!! Sherri O.K., just to make it more complicated, i'm going to throw in that Dr. Vliet says that, technically, a woman is not in menopause until one year after her last menstrual flow. So, by that definition, you are perimenopausal. Hollis Quote

Guest guest Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Hollis is right on that info. You are peri-menopausal before your last period ends.. unfortuantely, hot flashes can last and continue even after periods are long gone...
