Guest guest
Hi all, I just needed to ask if anyone has seen, with their apraxic child, at some point starting speech therapy (specifically intense speech therapy for apraxia)that your child has regressed in their thinking skills. Tonight I was putting to bed and had her " My first concept of Colors " book and #1 found out that she is no longer saying " Orange " at least the way she used to(before speech)when it came out as " onge " ( no R or A sound) tonight it was just like garble " owene " ??? then #2 when we came to green (says completely right, every sound) I asked her " what things on the page could you eat? " there were grapes, peas, and a cucumber. She pointed to peas first and then she paused and I showed her the grapes and then I asked her some questions like can you eat a " sock " ? (picture of a green sock) and I asked her " yes or no? " and she just said yes, I asked her again and she said yes again. Either some major confussion or she was just tired. I tend to think that there is major confussion going on because she even has done this once or twice durring the day. I really could use someones insight, perhaps Pam or Suzi or the others that have helped me on my previous concerns just these past weeks. I could also use anyones insight that I haven't heard from before too. I do appologize that this is so lengthy and I know all of you have been there with other concerns, that is why I love this group. Thank you so much! Guest guest
Traci - Sounds like my son when he's tired. He's less likely to be compliant and it's difficult for him to process the question as well as spit the response out. Try again in the morning and see if she can do it then. I wouldn't say that it's a reduction in cognative skills, but perhaps a refocusing. If you're speaking to a large group, and you're concerned that you're standing properly, speaking correctly and loudly and smiling the whole time, it's difficult to CREATE what you're saying at the same time. Apraxic kids are kind of like that - it's not second nature for them to do the creation, formation and pronunciation all at once. See if she's better when awake. Guest guest
hi Traci, My son had apple (aaa-l) and lost it. He does sometimes forget things but easily gets them back. I think he loses things sometimes because he doesn't use them. But I think at bedtime they are tired and maybe just don't want to answer or say anything to get you to stop asking questions. I know my son does that all the time and I tell him you know this or I let it go to another time, he usually get it right when I do that. I hope this helped. I get confused when I see him do that and get scard too. I go crazy for a week or so and really work with him to find out behaviors and not wanted to work was because he was getting sick. He regresses and then comes back chris traciclem <sjtlc@...> wrote: Hi all, I just needed to ask if anyone has seen, with their apraxic child, at some point starting speech therapy (specifically intense speech therapy for apraxia)that your child has regressed in their thinking skills. Guest guest
I'll agree with Marina. The talking thing especially. can say something for a long time, but then if she is not using it she'll forget how to say it. She calls my parents by their first names, Gene and Ruby. When she is around them, she can say their names. However, if she hasn't seen them in awhile, and hasn't talked about them she will forget their names. She's 7, and she can easily say their names, but she still forgets how to say it. I think the one thing that is consistent about Apraxic children is that they are inconsistent. Good luck! --- In , " traciclem " <sjtlc@a...> wrote: > Hi all, > I just needed to ask if anyone has seen, with their apraxic child, at > some point starting speech therapy (specifically intense speech > therapy for apraxia)that your child has regressed in their thinking > skills.
