There is a strong association between insulin-resistant type 2

diabetes (called Syndrome X), which most of us diabetics are, and

heart trouble. All diabetics are also at high risk for kidney damage.

The many complications of diabetes represent one of the leading

killers. That's why we urge each other so strongly to make the effort

and acquire the knowledge to achieve good diabetes control. That can

make all the difference. Many diabetics are able to live long and

relatively normal lives.

I guess I should start by introducing myself. My name is I am

27 years old, married for 3 years come July and have one son who will

be 2 in May. I have had RSD since 1999 after a fall down a flight of

stairs where I tore all 3 ligaments in my right ankle. It took the

doctors until March of 2001 to figure out what I had. From May to

July of 2001 I had a series of succesful nerve blocks and then had a

Radio Frequency Abalation. I had success with that procedure for

almost 2 years. My doctor feels part of my sucess was that I also got

pregnant with in that time and those hormones seemed to have helped.

I was able to be drug free for almost 2 years other then some OTC

pain killers now and then. It came back in October of 2003 with

spreading from the right lower leg to all of the right leg, lower

back and all of the left leg. I have been trying to find another pain

management doctor and finally did in January. Again I went thru the

gammit of drugs cocktails till we found one I could live with and

just had a series of 2 nerve blocks and this pain management

specialist wants to do another Radio Frequency. I need to call his

office tomorrow to set up. The 2 blocks I had worked for a maximum of

3 days but I was still needing my pain meds. My problem with my

blocks is that I woke up. I went from a twilight while they worked on

the left side to wide awake while on the right side. The first time

they were just finishing up when I woke up. This time I was awake for

both times on the right side. They did what he called a level 2 this

time. Again it worked but I would rather give birth again then be

that awake again. I am really nervous this is going to happen again.

Any advise would be welcome and well now I have told me story.

Welcome to the group, . Many years ago I had a chemical sympathectomy (rather than the RF sympathectomy that you describe). After about 3 - 4 months, the symptoms returned worse than they had previously been. It might be worth asking your doctor about this. Amen to that! My husband has been my main cheerleader through our

VV journey. I was diagnosed 6 monthes after we were married. He is

the one that kicked me in the head (figuratively) and made me go to

a specialist. It took several doctors to find one that didn't think

I was making it up.

I'm not saying that our marriage has been a joyride; but,

has always been there. I can't imagine how hard it's been on him --

not being able to have sex as a newly wed (or a non-newely wed). It

has caused a lot of stress; and we have discussed marriage

counseling to help deal with the stresses of vv.

Think positive.
