But I think the thing to remember is the small dose for a limited time. I feel that Peatfield's maximum time is a safe one....of two years. Very few folks would have to be on it for that long...I figure the average for most of us might be 3-6 months. I feel no concern about 5 mg. a day for that period of time. And no worry about long term side effects. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I've probably taken more prednisone during one of my tapered doses for asthma than I'll be taking for the adrenal support period of time. Guest guest
Tigger, Didn't you think that your adrenals are weak too? If they are, then any dose of thyroid could end up feeling like too much. Your description to me of being anxious sounds like a hyper symptom. You may need adrenal support first before the thyroid. See Pittsfield's article. Also,I think it is important to check about the potential reactions between the thyroid meds and your other meds. Some reduce availability, but some potentiate. I have the Armour insert right here if that would be helpful. You cannot believe how small the writing is!!!! I have to put magnifying glasses on to read it or I get a headache/eyeball ache! Some days just living is too stressful for me. After reading a lot of the posts here about adrenals, I'm wondering if I jumped on the Armour too soon. Any ideas? I really could use some sleep. I also have a lot of anxiety anyway and am feeling " overly " anxious... almost crawling out of my skin anxious. > > Help? > Tigger Yes - Tigger...I was afraid you might need some help with the adrenals first. you know that any stimulant pushes out any excess cortisol your adrenals might have...my son was drinking pots of espresso every day which is one of the things that exhausted his adrenals...when he started Armour he got worse instead of better. also used provigil when she had to so she could work...this gave her the same kind of problems with her adrenals on Armour. I would say stop the Armour and let's figure out what you are willing to take for your adrenals...I do not doubt you've got weak ones...actually my son's fibro went away after he began to treat his adrenals. Guest guest
This is exactly what happened to me, but on SYnthroid. I have had chronic insomnia for years and I had always had this weird energy spike that used to occur at around 7pm or so & therefore I could never sleep. I have now discovered that it is adrenal related. As soon as I went on meds, it was just too hard for my adrenals to keep up. When I switched over to Armour, I started at 1/4 grain and I had been on adrenal glandular stuff for about 3 weeks. ANyway, just wanted to give some support to let you know that you are not alone, and it can get better. Unfortunately, I stopped my adrenal support midway through my armour increases and that was WRONG! I am back on high doses of B vitamins, C's, adrenal glandulars, and licorice root. I have a feeling it is going to take me a lot longer to get back to normal becasue I stopped midway . I am going to order some isocort because I would really prefer to go the natural route. The steroids really make me nervous. I was on a doctor's board today who treats adrenals and fibro/CFS patients. She seems to be up on the thyroid etc... from what I gathered. SHe did mention, however, that she reccomends natural support for the adrenals as opposed to steroids. It is only my opinion, however, to stay away from steroids. Maybe this doctor is not knowledgeable in that department. > I received my Armour on Saturday and took 1/2 gr. The reason Dr. Peatfield usually prescribes tiny doses of pred instead of cortef is that it last 24 hours.
