Guest guest
Hi Colleen, My son also gets them and for him it is totally diet related. Salicylate foods, high phenols, which basically includes my sons entire diet. We are working on it, and it does make a difference when you cut down, or cut out which ever is more feasible. My son's behavior is in the toilet when he eats alot of these foods. Tomato products, juices (big one is apple juice) any vinegar product. lhttp://www.danasview.net/phenol.htm http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/Food/Salicylate.htm I know for my son this is what puts him over the edge so to speak. He doesn't do well eating these types of foods. Hope this helps. Colleen
Guest guest
This would happen to my kids when in contact with certain foods or chemicals they were sensitive too. These foods and chemicals didn't always show up on a typical allergy test. Dr. Doris Rapp has a website about food and chemical sensitivities and I think she talks about the red ears there. Guest guest
Colleen - Not sure if it's the same cause but Josh would occasionally have various body parts get red and hot - his ears (but no related fever), his ankles and calves, his lower arms. Not all at the same time, mind you, just on occasion. When it happened the first time, it was his ankles - I ran him over to the dr thinking horrible things like rheumatic fever, etc. Dr checked him out and he was fine. Dr said kids with issues affecting the autonomous nerve system (there are three nerve systems in the body) can sometimes have this happen - it's like the wiring just overloads on occasion and nothing to do about it - it just went away a couple of days later. As the nerve system and the neurological paths mature, the occurrences will lessen. Josh hasn't had anything in about two years now. I'd definitely take to the dr to check it out, though, especially with all of the issues you've had to deal with. My son is 4 and sometimes one of his ears will get very red and hot...sometimes both...could it be diet related (allergy)? Nerves? Just thought I would ask..not much info at all on the sites I've searched so I am sure I will find someone in here who knows something about it. We are seeing his pulmonologist/Allergist soon so I will ask him as well...but if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it! Thanks... colleen
Guest guest
Hi, Please do post your information in this group once you get more information from your Allergist/Pulmonologist because my five year old son with speech and language delay sometimes show this hot red ear sign but I never took it seriousky as it disappears after some time and its not frequent. Even I have noticed it in my ears too but very rarely and always thought that it could just be something like kind of physiological reaction to some unknown irritant or so. I am sure there are many out there who have experienced it sometime in their life. Thank you for raising this issue. sachin > Does anyone know why sometimes children/adults can get red hot ears? > My son is 4 and sometimes one of his ears will get very red and > hot...sometimes both...could it be diet related (allergy)?
