Holly,

I have read about allergy as a cause for vestibulitis as well, mainly as yeast

allergy/

hypersensitivity. I asked this question a few weeks go on this board, too, but

no one

responded. My biopsy indicates an allergic reaction, my dermatologist and gyno

said we

can do various allergy tests, my gyno said I can try taking an older oral

anthistamine like

hydroxyzine.

I'm very confused by it. While the rest of my skin has become more sensitive and

I do get

small hives nd rashes on my body sometimes (but rarely), I don't undestand how

an allergy

would be limited to the vulva and cause this burning over years (and be

cyclical). I have

never seen a doctor that believes in the yeast connection.

Other allergies could be to soap or detergent, and I guess it's worth testing

for such

things. I don't think that could be it for me.

Another thing that makes me sceptical about allergy is that my symptoms are

never

itching but " only " burning, and from what I read allergic reaction are usually

itching.

Please keep us posted if you find out anything more re. this. I will do the

same.

Whoa Bel, don't think that allergy is only itching. A good part of my vv problems WERE allergic and I never itched. My soaps, shampoos, hair conditioner, face creams (also had a skin condition on my face after vv developed), etc.

It is not at all uncommon for allergy to manifest itself in only one area of the body. Think about hayfever. It's an allergy that only attacks eyes and nose and makes them run - because in that person the body is weakest at that point. In your body it sounds as if you have allergy problems already with skin rashes etc.

I DID experience improvement after eliminating allergens (one was yellow dyes, which also was a problem in my meds I was taking by mouth - had to switch to all white tabs).

So, the testing is worthwhile if it brings you even some relief. One product, my hair shampoo, when applied as a patch test to my arm , left a sore the size of a penny that was so deep it formed a scab. I'd say it would be worth it to eliminate anything that could do that to you.

Good Luck

Dusty

thanks for the replies. I too find it strange that an allergy would be localized in only that particular area. I started experienceing symptoms shortly after moving into a new house. Had my water tested and it had a higher PH level then even the water company suggested it should. My theory is that I am yeast sensitive. Doc's willing to let me try some crm and pills for yeast for a few months and see what happens. Am going to look into this allergy clinc and see what I can find out. Will keep you posted.
