You asked about Carpal Tunnel and RSD being hand in hand ,, I really think it is my opinion that they do go hand in hand ,, I know by my experience that after I was dx'd with RSD came after that carpal tunnel.. I had surgery on one, my rsd site but since it didn't seem to make it any better I chose not to have the other one done..

I also had a rotator cuff surgery but that also made things worse, once again that was also on my Rsd side.. never again..

I hope that you find the answers that you are looking for through others that have experienced the same thing. If you want to talk you can write me here

-- S.S APPEAL HELP NEEDED

Hi

I urgently need some help. No matter whether you are in the world LOL.

Has any one got any information on Carpel Tunnel & RSD.

I know I have some but I need all the information I can get.

I have been given a date for my Industrial Injuries Appeal, the information I need is the link between Carpel Tunnel & RSD. I have step by step guides of the operation ( courtesy of the hospital library) with RSD in the list of complications, other information too, but if anyone out there has any other MORE the MERRIER I would so be so grateful!!!!.

Anything that mentions RSD & Carpel Tunnel would be fantastic!

Last year it was adjourned. They had agreed on the Carpel Tunnel - no problem, but I need to get them to agree that RSD is a sequela of Carpel Tunnel- hence asking for your help. RSD has always been the sticking point all these years.

Also those of you in the UK - does any of you get Industrial Injuries benefit? if so do you get it for RSD?, if you do was your RSD recognised as a sequel of your Industrial Injury/accident/disease?

This has been going on now since 97 and I just want an end to this.

Any help would be wonderful

Sharon

Hello Sharon and Jeanne,

I Just wanted to reply to your email, I had Carpal tunnel. I had surgery in August of 2000. The DR. said I had it in both hands, after the surgery, I developed RSD they said from the surgery itself.. The DR said it was CT but never did test for it just did the surgery to release it. Then after I had the RSD in my right hand, they tested the left hand and said I didn't have CT. My RSD has generalized throughout my body. If I could go back I would get a 2nd opinion, and read the surgery release form carefully. When I was diagnosed they showed me the medical release form and it said could cause CRPS, but I didn't even know what that was. I have fought the SS and the W/C and I am still battling the RSD.

My current Dr., who is great has told me no surgeries for anything unless life or death this can cause the RSD to spread and flare up. Sorry to ramble on and on. Hope this is helpful to you and good luck with the fight.

Hi ,

I had carpal tunnel surgery on right hand May 1997, it never got better just kept getting worse. The w/c doctor at that time told us there was damage to the ulnar nerve also and after that was repaired my hand would be fine. I had the ulnar nerve on right arm done Sept. 1997 and things just got worse and worse. I was sent to another surgeon and both my hand and arm were operated on again, four surgeries in all. The first surgeon left the ulnar nerve like a "piece of wet spaghetti" according to the second surgeon and it had no idea what it was supposed to do it just flopped around for more than 7 months through painful physical therapy sessions, etc. When my hand was redone, it was found a "mess" as well.

I was diagnosed with RSD March 1999 at which time we were clueless as to what it was, just told the doctor to fix it since he knew what was wrong and what was causing the pain, etc. Little did we know there was no fix.

I remember signing several releases between the four surgery's but don't recall reading anything about CRPS on them. My brother-in-law went for an EMG/NCS test over a year ago to check for carpal tunnel which showed as positive, the doctor wanted to operate and he said no way, my sister in law got RSD after carpal tunnel surgery. The doctor told him that it only happens in about 1 out of every 100 patients, personally those odds aren't the best the way I see it. If he hadn't already known about RSD the doctor wouldn't have told him about the odds, he came out and asked him and he said if he hadn't asked he would not have shared the information. This is one reason it is so important to push for RSD Awareness & Education and possibly prevention.
