if the short acting ALA are working for you, fine, but if you want

to get the delayed release, they carry them online at www.iherb.com.

I like cinnamon with unsweetened applesauce, in my coffee and/or tee, in my

oatmeal, on

my toast, in certain chicken dishes. I'm sure it'd be good on salads with the

right type of

dressing (perhaps a citrus vinagrette made with safflower or olive oil and a

sweet

vinegar?).

For a tasty shake, try tossing the following in a blender:

• ½ medium banana

 • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

 • 1 tsp oil, safflower

 • ½ Tbl peanut butter, natural

 • 6 Tbls protein powder, vanilla

 • 4 Tbls yogurt, nonfat-plain

 • 1 tsp cocoa, unsweetened

• Ice cubes to reach desired consistecy.

Yes, this is a mini-meal, not a 'snack' or something to drink with a meal. I

know it seems

like a lot of sugar, but that comes mostly from the banana As with anything,

YMMV, but I

don't get much of a glucose spike from this at all, because the carbs are

balanced with the

protein and fat to slow absorption. If it weren't, I'd be through the roof.

Be sure to try the really fun oils, like walnut oil, or safflower. Different

oils can give foods a

completely different taste. Also, these two are particularly good for cooking

with due to

their high smoke point, unlike olive oil which is really better as an

ingredient.

If you're going to try this shake be sure to check your BG first then an

hour and 2 hours later. I'm pretty sure that for me, a 20-carb anything

would make my BGs go way up. No matter what it was combined with. YMMV.

I would further that with saying before, 1 hour and 2 hours after to find out

where you

'peak.'

Right now, starting this new way of eating, I'm testing anywhere between 8 to 10

times a

day. I guess I'm lucky in that I looked at the carbs assigned to me and

automatically

lowered it just a tad. I am worried about getting over 150g of protein a day,

even if a lot of

that does come from egg whites and soy. Anyone got any figures handy on protein

intake

for diabetics with mostly normal kidneys? (I show very, VERY VERY trace amounts,

at times,

on a microalbumin test, but that was also when I was eating a lot of protein

like now, high

carbs, and training for a marathon. I have read that heavy athletic training can

make you

pass protein.)
